Hi guys, Just bought a 1980 AAAXXX 36-1 HEAVY BARREL and wondered what was the intent of the barrel since there are no adjustable sights. Thanks, OHIOCARRY

I have a 36-1 and prefer it over the 2" models. Longer sighting radius, more velocity, better recoil characteristics and a full stroke on the ejector.
An extra 1" is not hard to conceal.

The sights do not need to be adjustable if it shoots to point of aim. at short ranges. Not a 25 or50 yard target gun

. . . A full-thickness barrel adds muzzle weight and reduces felt recoil . . .

The rationale described in two brief quotes!

I would only add from my experience that the 36-1 with a square butt points instinctively on-target . . . just in case you don't have time to take careful aim.

Put me down as another fan of the three inch. For the same reasons previously mentioned.

I like the looks and feel of a 3 inch barrel. The extra inch sight radius and larger sights make it a lot easier to shoot well. I also feel the inch going from 2 to 3 helps ballistics more than the inch going from 3 to 4.

The 36-1 3" heavy barrel is a great revolver. My understanding is that it was originally developed for NYPD's female officers in the early '70's. I believe it was a cataloged item until 1991. I haven't seen one for sale around here in years, but when I do run across another one I'm going to buy it.
