After holding a revolver in a local gun shop, I realized I love them more than pistols. A couple of weeks ago I traded my M&P 40c for a model 36-7 and absolutely love it. I have two questions. First, the bluing is in real good condition but I want to preserve the gun to last as long as possible without constant oiling of the parts where the finish is worn off. Already have disassembled and cleaned away the rust and carbon, and am aware that refinishing will lower the value but have no intention on ever selling. Is the cost worth sending it back to Smith a good idea or should I save the expense? Second, I want to get a speed-loader. Are they standard among all the J frames or are they specific to the model of revolver? Any input is appreciated.

Renaissance Wax or Boeshield will protect the blueing from corrosion and if you keep applying in should also reduce finish wear. You will still eventually get a bit of cylinder rotation ring but these will keep it to a minimum. Holster wear is probably the principal culprit for finish wear. If it were me and the gun had 90% or more original finish I'd just leave it alone rather than send it back to S&W. They do not even offer refinishing on many older guns because of a lack of parts.

For a speed loader you want the HKS 36-A. It fits J-frame .38's.

Thanks. Even thought it is a bit late responding, I did buy the speed-loaders and they work great.
