EXACTLY!Keeping my blued revolvers rust free is a two step process . I have some old school cotton baby diapers . They are used to wipe down my guns and remove all fingerprints before oiling them . I haven't found anything softer or more absorbent than a 100 % cotton baby diaper . Removing all traces of fingerprints goes a long way to preventing corrosion .
I have kept some cotton baby diapers for just that purpose (and the original wearer is now in her mid-40’s). I use 3-in-One oil on the diapers and store them in zip-lok bags… one inside my safe to wipe down any gun recently handled…and one on my workbench. Every day or other when passing by that workbench I take out the carry-gun and wipe it down.
The diapers aren’t “soaked”. They just have an accumulated residual amount and are used solely and only for the purpose of removing finger-prints/handling on guns. I’ve got a blued Mod 36 bought in ‘75 that still looks new despite being a daily carry for 20 years in a lined holster, and wiped down nightly.
