You’re right about 2400…never changed. Believe there’s a detailed post somewhere where they compared old vs new, Hercules and Alliant, and the results were ballistically the same.
My original factory 38-44 duplicate is 11.0 grs 2400 and Lyman 358311 RN dropping at 158 grs (Lyman #2 metal). I rarely reload these anymore becoming wiser in old age. I prefer to duplicate in my S&W 1953 Heavy Duty 5 inch the 1950s through early 1970s 38 Special “Hi-Speed” factory loads (pre +P) as chronographed; approximately, 950 fps from a 4 inch and 1,020 FPS in a 6 inch. Unique easily fits the bill.
