Mine is S702xx and without the checkered barrel rib. I feel shorted It does, however, have very fine checkering between the 6 grooves on the backstrap.
I too was wondering how many of these transitional Outdoorsmans were made with the RM barrels.
Or better yet, how many approximently are known to be in us collectors hands?
Extremely cool guns!
GLL told me several years ago that there were only 9 known examples of transitional ODs with pre-war magnum barrels. I have one that was "frankengunned" and rendered to shooter status. Yes, the barrel is marked 38 S&W Special. And, yes, it does have the LERK. Aspenhill may have more expert knowledge.
I can't find it now, but I seem to recall an older thread on the checked transitional OD barrels in which it was estimated perhaps no more than 100-200 of this variety were produced. With fewer than a dozen specimens known, that total doesn't seem wildly out of sync to me.
