about 4 years ago I was given this M&P 38 for work I had done on an old fellows roof next door, and the ser#S871196, barrel# matches grip# and it is in really good shape, gun is nickle plated and it came in a S&W box with little metal corners, also in the box was the org. paper instruction for operation and it shows a police officer standing pointing the revolver, he is dressed in a police uniform with knee high black boots, his pants are (looks like horse riding pants with balloon sides. I have gone through this site and could not find aprox date or value, and any help would be great---mrseabeemike

1947, + or - one year.
IF original nickel, you have a good gun.
Post good pics and we can tell you if it is likely original nickel.
It would be a VERY early post-war nickel. They were quite scarce for the first few years after WW II.
