It may be old fashioned, but it works well.
I also like the RemingtonUMC 125gr 38+p semi jacketed hp.

Most anybody's examples in here should do more than well.....should shot placement be good. I happen to carry Speer GDHP myself.

For me it shoots very well in all of the QUALITY revolvers (IE: S&W or Colt) I have shot it in. It didn't perform so well in a Taurus we tried, but nothing else did either.

I agree. If the 586 is a snubby (less than 3" barrel), however, I would choose Remington's FBI load (with their soft lead bullets) over Federal's or Winchester's (with their hardcast bullets). From what I have read on sites like this one, any 586 with a three-inch barrel or more is fine with any FBI load.

Those are my choice, but the 158grLSWCHP+P is easier to duplicate from a reloadign standpoint, so that is my #1 choice. FWIW, I have tested both RP & WW loads in wetpack & they are virually identical out of a 2 1/4" SP101.

I tend to like handloads of the 158-200 gr variety but for off the shelf, the Remington 38+p 158gr lead hollowpoint would do a good job.
I also like the Win Supreme Elite 130 PDX.

I personally think you would be wise to never ever use 110 grain anything. Especially Federal 110 Hydrashock. It will not penetrate well at all. I have seen that first hand.

carry load

i have a 3inch revolver in 357mag,which i carry around my home and exercise boundries.
and i aways have a plan A and B ---------plan A first two rounds are 38+p,s
plan B last four rounds are the big boys just in case we need more convincing power of the
357,s to stop what should be stopped. this is because i feel better knowing that if i need more punch i won,t have to wait and reload or wish i had brought the 357,s along in my speed loader or pocket .keep safe and stay alert.
