What do I need? Are they I frame or something else? I think mine has J frame grips on it now.

Think I just did not have it fastened properly or angle of the photo. Here is another picture. Better?

Heavily buffed and refinished gun. What is the serial number?? I have a feeling there was no such thing as Magna stocks when that revolver was built. Almost certain it would have been black hard rubber. Several models of top-breaks had the same size stocks. Model 1903 stocks also fits that revolver.

Gary, the serial number is 182033. Letter says it was shipped with black hard rubber stocks. Just need to know what they are called so I can search for some on Ebay.

David, I believe they are called "black hard rubber stocks." :) There is no telling what a seller on eBay might call them. You may have to do several searches before you call up all the options. You could try "S&W Service stocks", "rubber grips," "black plastic grips," etc.

You don't need to search on the web for stocks, you can get good reproduction stocks for your gun from N.C. Ordnance Here is a link to their web site: N.C. Ordnance Inc. - Making Quality Gun Grips & Butt Plates Start under Search for Firearm Manufacturer. What you need are clearly specified as for .38 Safety, etc.

I have several sets from them on my S&W revolvers and have never been disappointed.

Thanks Alk8944. $45 plus $7 shipping. My gun is not original so grips don't need to be either.
They say that is an I frame grip.
Will look awhile online and then order some if I don't do better.

. . . They say that is an I frame grip . . .

That is what a 32 HE is on my chart, a pre-WW2 I frame or Model 1903. That style and size started in the early 1880s on the 38 Single Action revolver. Remember that all these guns were hand fitted, meaning the factory worker removed both wood and steel to get that perfect fit for the stocks, so technically, no two are exactly the same. Some will be too small and some will be too big.

I bought a pair from NC Ordnance and they fit perfectly. I later replaced them with MOP ones, but I'm keeping the repros from NCO as a spare set.
