.38 Spl Load Suggestions

I use Bullseye..... 2.8 grains for 148wc's and 3.5 for 158swc's.

Given the lack of available powders, I'm considering looking at black powder loads. FFFG?

2.6-2.7 gr WST with 148 gr LWC. Good light load that seems to be pretty accurate shooting cans around 15 yards.

I also use Clays, BE, W231 and the occasional 2400 for heavy to max load.

Black powder is getting harder to find and it can be dangerous to use. There is a good alternative though, Pyrodex P is specifically designed as a pistol powder. I have loaded it in the 45 Colt and it's a hoot-to-shoot! I have not tried it in the .38 Special but I see no reason why it wouldn't work just as well since the .38 Special was also originally a black powder cartridge.

Through the shortage I have seen Pyrodex, Triple 7, White Hots and one or two others substitutes available in most big box stores and the prices remained the same as the pre-shortage prices...

I say go for it! Now you have me wanting to load some .38 Special ammo and some .38 S&W ammo with Pyrodex P...
