Whenever I'm in a store I look for the 38/357 ammo. Lately I haven't found much if any. Still plenty of 40S&W, 9mm and 45acp but the revolver rounds are noticeably absent. You did good buying it when you found it.

If you really want to know where all the ammo is, check the ceilings, basements and storage boxes of all the hoarders who are making things worse than they have to be. BTW, you will probably find all the missing powder and primers there too...

Yes. They are on backorder because of all the panic buying. The current panic rich political climate has everyone buying guns and ammo like madmen.
Eventually, the supply system will catch up. Don't know if that will be next week or next year.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but what do you define as hoarding? If hoarding is owning enough ammunition to use in defense of your home and family during a civil disorder, then I'm probably guilty (and I have no problems with that whatsoever).
I buy ammo because what I see and hear tells me that some or all of it may be in short supply or even un-available at some point in the not too distant future.
People, things have changed, and I'm not sure they're ever going back the way they were before. I'm not willing to bet my safety and the safety of those I care about on the optimistic thoughts of people who think this is only a temporary situation.
I don't buy ammo that I can't use, and I don't buy it to sell later at a profit. I'm also not going to depend on the local china-mart to have a box of .38 spl in stock if the SHTF.
Yep, the buying panic continues. Seems to be easing a little in my area, though. I can now usually find 9mm and 45acp on a regular basis. I haven't been looking for 38/357 as I've had a good supply for months in those calibers.
The one that's still tough to find around here is 380. It shows up maybe about once/month and then it's gone overnight.

I'm not talking about stocking up because of a possible shortage. Everyone should be prepared for anything that might come in the future. I'm talking about real hoarders. I'm talking about someone who goes to every store in the area and empties the shelves of ammo because they can even though they already have more ammo than they could possibility shoot in 2 lifetimes.
I usually have a years worth of reloading components on hand. When the prices started to rise I expanded that to a bit over a 2 year supply except for primers which I expanded to 3 years. I mostly did that because of the price jumps and did it slowly, not all at once. I would buy a few boxes at a time at a show. The hoarders are buying 100,000 of each primer type they use and then whatever they find on the shelves in local stores. Same with powder, I read in another forum some guy went to a store and saw 10,000 primers on the shelf and bought them all "just in case" even though he admitted he already had well over 75,000 of the same type primer and usually only shoots 5,000 rounds a year. He said he knew he didn't need them but bought them anyway. That's the kind of hoarding I'm talking about.

I could not agree more with your statement. Things have changed!! and are still changing for the worse.
I often see the word "panic" and "hoarding" used to describe what is taking place today with ammo and long guns. I totally disagree with this term, and I'll tell you why based on my experience.
I live in New Jersey which is considered to be in the top five states where our civil liberties have been eroded by state politicians who suffer from gun-phobia. I have seen gun laws under attack for the last thirty years, a little at a time. Presently in NJ you may not own a clip which holds anything over 15 rounds. You may not have a collapsable stock. it is impossible to obtain a carry permit. Pistol grips are illegal on long guns except on a pump shotgun as long as the barrel is at least 18" long. I could go on but instead let me give all the following heads up.
Take a look at the Assault Weapon Ban (H.R. 1022) presently waiting for the opportune moment to be presented to the House of Reps for passage and then you will perhaps understand that this "panic" is a justified plan by those of us who see where the Fed Gov. is going.

I understand where you are coming from. It strikes me that some people are trying to make a serious profit off of this situation. Maybe it's justifiable, but I'm not gonna jump on that boat. I only have what I can use, or what I think I might need if push comes to shove.
