I just picked up today a 3904 that is duotone with Novak night sights.

The more I look into this gun I do not see when S&W sold a 3904 duotone with novak sights.

Here are some pictures to look at and to see if anyone knows more than me about this gun.

The more I think about the slide maybe from another model.

That is what i was thinking.

I say 5906, never seen a novak on a 3906.

I am betting that two guys decided to swap out slide and each would have a two-tone Smith. I have seen this done before (more than once). It's definitely a 5903 or 5906 slide.

I thought I remember seeing reference to a two tone 3904 in Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson. It is at the end of the description of the 3904.

If by model number you mean 3904, then no it would not necessarily change. S&W has made two-tones 3rd Gen guns before using the designation of the frame. I used to own a factory S&W 908 that had a black slide and a clear anodized frame (they did this with the 457 as well). It was still marked as a 908. Plus you have to factor in special orders and limited edition runs for places like Lew Horton.

3rd Edition on page 299.
"A two-tone variation was produced with a satin alloy bead blast frame with a blue slide. TFD3944 was our example."

I just picked one of these up.
It appeared unfired or darn few rounds thru it, with only storage marks on the frame & slide.
It has the 3 dot Novak sights and a 9 round stls. mag.
