3913 Dumb question...

I have many guns that I can carry, but regularly reach for my 3953. Mags are easy find for $70 to $80, less if you’re patient. I don’t know about other brands, but Galco’s 246 (discontinued) is the holster for the 39XX/69XX, however, many others will work just fine. I like the size and weight.

Hi Baird and Everyone !

another old saying is "you can't take it with you"...if a 3913 will lift your spirits and bring joy then enjoy the joyous joy you'll have and extend that joy to others when you share your joy at the range. Oh, and do not worry, one of us smith-wessonforum folks will buy it and enjoy it if you have to let it go.

I love my ladysmith 3913 and glad to have it and shoot it. In fact will have to take it out on my next range visit.

Mine came from my LGS with 2 mags and the Ladysmith soft case all in mint condition no original box. It didn't look fired. It was on consignment tor $600.00 but I eventually got it for $500.00 which is a bit high but to me very worth it.

Peace to you and your wife ... 3GF

Dang! That's a nice looking LadySmith. Really like the grey ghost thing. Maybe the looks of a gun shouldn't matter to me so much, but they do. I think the lines on the LadySmith / 3913 NL are just so much cooler than the base 3913.

It’s good to hear you bought that pistol, mine is a 3913TSW that I bought used a few years ago. They just don’t build them like that anymore.

I’m hoping and praying your wife beats cancer, it sounds like you’ve dealt with more than your share of grief already. I wouldn’t wish cancer on my worst enemy and if I was granted just one wish it would be to eradicate cancer from all Creation.

If it makes you Happy ... Buy it

Life is short and pleasures are few ...

Every gun Regret I have had ...
was because I didn't buy it when it was available !

Does it make you ... smile ? If So , Buy !

If you have already bought the gun ...
Congratulations ... Now is range time ... Choot it !

Having fond memories of a gun from one's past is certainly a good reason to pick up another. I am very nostalgic and would do the same if the right one came along.

Yes, magazines can be found at $50 and under if you are patient. The same size magazines were used in the 3913, 3914, 3953, 3954, and 909 so they are out there. Several of mine came from an out-of-town gunshop and were mislabeled as for a Chiefs Special with prices that were reasonable. If nothing else, it gives you a good excuse to hit the gun shows, gun shops, and pawn shops in your area.

Be sure to post some pics when you pick it up. :)

908 :)

909 is the full size single stack, value version of the 3906/3904. But yes the 909 mag will fit, but sticks out 1 round. But you probably knew that and made a typo.

Strange I saw your thread this morning. My everyday carry is a Shield Plus with Ameriglo(?) night sights. Also own a 6906. I have owned a 3913 in the past with 6 S&W mags. I just purchased a 3913 TSW yesterday with extra mags. I have NOT yet learnd to not sell guns.

Ha, I actually didn't know; I wanted to include all possible models for OP so I copied the (bad) info from an online auction. Thanks for catching that and helping me to stay on my toes. Great forum, great members.

The 908 started my current 3rd Gen addiction. Had 2 prior to it, ended up with about 14 now. :)

It’s self-serving but I agree with this. :D I’ve had to scrimp and save and missed a few I really wanted, and I’ve hesitated and missed a few. I think it’s usually best to buy if you can afford it. If it turns out to be a mistake, you can usually sell and recover most of the money if you’re patient.

Congrats on the nice 3913. That’s a weapon that doesn’t go out of style, IMO. (Those who think it does are wrong. :D)

I have and carry a Shield Plus with an optic.. not because I like it, but because of "Work"...truth be told I don't like it.. yes, it holds more rounds, yes it has an optic...but I have to really work to shoot it well. My 3913 I LIKE...it carries easily, shoots easily, I do have to work to shoot it well but that is do to aging eyes and the iron sights, not the pistol itself.

Quick update with a range report. The bottom line...this was a great purchase!

I shot a variety of rounds, from 124 FMJ, 147 Federal HST, 124 Federal HST and 124+P Speer Gold Dots. Everything worked without a hiccup and I believe I will use the 124 Federal HST for carry.

My range has a bunch of steel targets in the pistol bays (out to 30 yards) and I did all my shooting there. Even with the high winds, I was getting hits on the smallest two targets. One is 3"x5" and the other 3.5" round. Shooting in single action I was hitting these about 30-40% of the time. Double action was not nearly so easy. I probably got about 10% hits, again from 30 yards. Maybe. Regardless, I felt this gun is more accurate than I am.

My old High Noon Mr. Softy worked very well for appendix carry. The holster permits the gun to sit lower in the waistband than many other holsters and this makes it most comfortable for me.

I have ordered a reduced power hammer spring to hopefully make my double action shots a bit more accurate. I did this with my original 3913 from years ago and it definitely helped and I don't recall any light primer strikes. I also blacked out the rear sight dots and painted the front dot fluorescent orange, which I prefer as well.

Next...just plain shooting this thing. Thanks again for all the kind words and advice.

...and the reason it's dumb is that I'm going to ask for opinions to a question that I have most likely already decided.

I hope that was clear. Basically I'm just trying to justify a new purchase and this is probably the wrong place for that. :)

I found very clean used 3913 Ladysmith (possibly unfired) at the LGS for a price that appears to be about the going rate. Only two mags included.

What I'm trying to justify to myself is why I would make such a purchase when I have a Shield Plus that shoots better than I do, carries more rounds, has better sights and is a joy to carry.

I had a 3913 back when they first appeared and it was the first 9mm off duty gun I purchased when my department switched from M64s to 3rd Gen S&W .40 cal guns. Did I keep the 3913? Of course not, because I had not yet learned to never sell guns.

So lets see...the 3913 mags are crazy expensive, tough to find any aftermarket sights and not many holster options (I still have a High Noon Mr. Softy though). It makes no sense to buy the 3913, so I guess I will head there tomorrow to see if it is still in the shop.

Since it seems like I really don't have a question...how about any sources for factory mags? I like the flat baseplates too, so how about any ideas there? I have already checked the usual places like GB and eBay but can always use another source.

Thanks for letting me express my happiness over a new gun.
Crossbreed Supertuck is perfect for all my 3rd gens. Fits my 908, 3913, 6906, and 56xx’s. One holster. All 3rd gens. I got the square trigger guard version of the holster which also fits those with round guards.

You won’t be disappointed!!

Over the last 30+ years I’ve let go of maybe 5 firearms that I regret immensely. In the early to mid 90’s or so I had a 3913 and I had it with me everywhere I went and it was a dynamite little shooter. Let it go maybe 25 years ago and have regretted it since.
