I recently acquired a 3913LS.

Been considering getting started in IDPA, or some other type of competetive shooting. My goal would be to develop skooting skills.

Is the "Lady" a good gun to start with?

It's the only semi-auto I have except for a Ruger LC9 (original hammer fired version).

Seems to me the 3913 would fit into the CCP division.

CDP, CCP ................... 8 rounds
8.2.4 Compact Carry Pistol Division (CCP)

Handguns permitted for use in CCP must:
A. Be semi-automatic.
B. Use 9 mm (9x19) or larger cartridges.

C. Barrel length 4 3/8" or less.

D. The unloaded firearm with the heaviest magazine must weigh 38.00 oz. or less.

E. The firearm with the largest magazine inserted must fit in the IDPA gun test box measuring 7 ¾” x 5 3/8” x 13/8”.

8.2.4.1 Start Condition
A. Single action only firearms will start cocked and locked. (hammer cocked, safety engaged).
B. Selective DA/SA firearms may start cocked and locked or de-cocked, at the shooter’s discretion.
C. DA, DAO, or striker fired firearms with a de-cocking lever or button will be de-cocked using the lever or button.
D. DA, DAO, or striker-fired firearms may have a manual safety engaged at the shooter’s discretion.

I've never tech checked a 3913 in the IDPA "box" , but my guess is CCP is the appropriate division. CCP allows most mods other than optics and ports.

Mine works VERY well in IDPA CCP.......How much better does it get than being able to use your carry gun and shoot it a lot.....

The answer is yes, it will be fine. Agree w/ most here it should compete in CCP

Give it a try, it'll be fun

You'll actually be using a model handgun that IDPA was created to use 20 years ago. An actual carry size self defense pistol. Most IDPA participants (myself included) have chosen to use large, sometimes with several upgrades, models to benefit speed and better accuracy. A thumbs up to you for even trying the 3913. I have one and have considered it, but have found no (kydex) holster, mag holders, extra magazines, or fiber optic sights to allow me the use of that model.

Using a carry gun was the original purpose of IDPA. Not a problem with the LS, just have enough mags and practice your reloading.
The big problem is the rule book and moving a foot while reloading, keeping cover, etc. Which is why my club is now USPSA.
