I've been looking for a decent 3913. At an auction last month I passed on a fairly nice one because I thought that $475 with the box and three mags was a little high. Did I screw up?
You didn't mention specifics about condition but if it was a nice one, I would say the price is not a bargain, but in line. The so-called "NL" guns go for a little more in my area. "Fairly nice" makes me think the gun had a few marks or some holster wear, and if that is the case, the price might be a bit high.
I paid $455 OTD for a CA DOC 3913 trade in at this weekends gunshow. No box or docs and one mag. I feel I got a fair deal on a superb pistol.

Over the summer I paid $450.00 for a CA DOC trade in with two magazines and a Super Tuck holster. No box or anything else, but mine looked new.
I think $450.00 is the average right now. There is a thread here started by someone who bought a CA DOC 3913 with the box, but I forget what he paid for it.
They aren't making them any more - so prices are going up.
It's been mentioned a couple of times on this forum that S&W could produce these guns again if they received a contract from LE, but now that the Shield is in production and probably significantly less expensive to manufacture, it may never happen.
That means you can probably expect prices to continue to rise. LE trade-ins are going to be the last source of resonably priced guns, after that, you are going to have to pry them away from current owners.
The good news is that some folks who don't know any better are trading 39XX series pistols in on those shields.
I've gotten four calls from local shops over the last three months telling me they have a 39XX series for me to look at. Previous to the shield coming out, you rarely saw a 39XX series pistol for sale locally.
If anyone in Greensboro NC is going to buy one of those shields, please trade in a clean 6904 for it. Thanks! Regards 18DAI
I bought a 3913 Ladysmith a couple of weeks ago on Gunbroker for $455. It was described as 'excellent', I would call it 'very good' with needing new sights (which the seller hadn't mentioned). I called S&W to buy some new novak sights and they sent me a pair for free. So all in all, I'm happy with the gun (it shoots beautifully).
Thanks! Now I don't feel so bad for spending $560 on an unfired new-in-box 3913NL a few months back...
S&W 3rd gen autos generally go for less around here. Typical used (but very good condition) prices are $335 - 400 for 3913/3914/5906/6906 etc., although they seem to be heading upward.
I don't know current street price but will say that I would not take $475 for my lightly used 3913 with box, papers, and three mags even though I don't carry it anymore. It is one of the guns I have ear-marked to give my daughter some day. She is just 9 years old so it will be a while yet.
