How does one measure the sight height on a 3913(serial TZT1XXX)? From the top of the sight to the top of the slide, or from the top of the sight to the bottom of the dovetail?
My EDC gun is a 3913 that I consistantly shoot low with. So, I think I need to change the front sight to a shorter one, or raise the rear sight.
Sights are Novaks. Front sight measures .1335" to the top of the slide, and .2340" to the bottom of the dovetail. Rear sight is .2125" to the top of the slide.
Numrich lists a .204" front sight(as does Brownells), and a .260" rear. Either may fix my problem, but I want to make sure before I buy.

What do you use for ammunition? I found that my 3913TSW (pre rail) with Meprolight night sights, was shooting low with 115gr rounds. When I use 124gr it's much better, and 147gr is right to point of aim.

I believe that 147gr was the standard LE round when the 39xx compacts were being designed and is the round they were designed to shoot.

If it's shooting low with either of the heavier rounds, a taller front sight might be the answer.

I agree with Gary, my 3913 and 3914 shoot 147's to point of aim.

My 3914 had the wrong front sight and shot extremely low, even with 158 gr suppressor loads. Dropping in the factory spec height resulted in 147s printing POA.

Currently my carry ammo is Winchester Ranger 115 gr JHP +P+. Though I mainly shoot my reloads(Lyman 356402 which weighs 132 gr), for 124 gr FMJ.

From the S&W parts list for the 3913 - your front sight does seem incorrect.

109070000 FRONT SIGHT .204
107920000 REAR SIGHT - NOVAK

Front sight measures .1335" to the top of the slide, and .2340" to the bottom of the dovetail.
Rear sight is .2125" to the top of the slide.

My early 3914's front sight measures .201" from the top of the sight to the dovetail with my digital caliper.

The rear sight measure .273" from the top of the sight to the "flat" under the sight's apex. The gap between the "flat" & the bottom of the sight measures .017" with my feeler gauge. Subtract the gap reading (.273-.017=.256") & you should get a number close to the .260" Brownell listing on yours.

My sight's are well regulated using full/+P loads with 124gr JHP handloads at 15yds.

You can never get an exact sight reading unless it's been removed, of course. You just too hard to get a consistant placement of your caliper.
