Hello All, Before I become all consumed by the urge to start a 3rd gen S&W collection, I would like to ask if you could confirm if the 3rd gen autos all have a magazine disconnect feature?

LGS (GAT guns in Illinois) has the largest selection I have seen in years. Someone must have sold a collection. 3913NL, 3913LS, unfired 5906, unfired 4516, etc.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum! :)

The 3rd generation pistols SHOULD be equipped with the magazine disconnect safety. They are designed with it - UNLESS specifically ordered without it, in which case a warning will normally be laser etched somewhere on the right side of the slide - OR somebody removes it.

I still test everyone I purchase BEFORE loading it. Simply drop the magazine and pull the trigger. If it doesn't dry fire the system is intact.

Good luck with your purchases! Sounds like the LGS has a VERY nice selection. Regards 18DAI

Thank you 18DAI. I will also start testing the guns as you suggest.

FBI Issue without disconnect?

I thought the FBI issue 1006 didn't have the mag disconnect. Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. Today even.

A standard 3rd gen would have the magazine safety but there will be special orders, like the FBI 1076's, that won't have the magazine safety.

The previous owner may have removed the mag disconnect for competition use and neglected to return it to stock before trading it. Don't count on the dealer catching it either, given that these guns have been out of civil production for over a decade now.
