3rd Gen trigger questions

I had my 3rd Gens out to the range for some sunshine today, it has been a while since they had any rounds down the tube - my M&P has been getting all my attention lately. Anyway, I noticed that the triggers on these pistols (1066, 4006, 5903) really suck, lots of travel, not too positive on the pull, and not even close to consistent between the three guns. Is there anything I can do, or have my gunsmith do, to improve the triggers on these wonderful pistols?

If you have a local gunsmith that knows 3rd Generation pistols that would be a good way to go.

Otherwise, I would contact S&W. From what I've seen it can be tricky to get the most out of these pistols unless you have experience. Also, if you mess up, parts aren't that easy to come by.

Did you purchase the weapons new?

Perhaps my young fingers may be faulty instruments, but no two S&W pistols ive sampled have ever featured the same exact trigger pull. The DA pull on my 4566 is parsecs better than long sometime-today DA trigger of my 5906.Perhaps a polish and cleaning of the works is in order?

The 5903 and 4006 were new, 1066 was purchased used. I don't need to get fancy, just take up some slack and make the pull more crisp and consistent. I will check with my gunsmith, he has been doing it for many years and has experience and knowledge with 3rd Gens. A fondness too, so I know he will embrace what I am trying to accomplish. I just wanted to see if you all had any suggestions that would help to point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Novak still does trigger work on the 3rd Gens. The Novak custom Smiths are pretty amazing guns.

I have sent a 4014 to the PC for a trigger job. It was amazing! I plan on sending my 4506-1 next. I have not tried the express service, but the normal wait is over two months on work from the factory. THe cost works out about the same with shipping either Novak or Smith PC. I too shoot more with my M&P's, and when I transition back to my 3rd Gen Autos I find my accuracy is off, hence the trigger job. Hope this helps.
