3rd generation realization

kbm6893, I agree with you. I can think of several guns I'd trade my M&P for but not any for my 5906.

If the gun is not malfunctioning I would leave it alone. The MIM parts they use do not wear out or go bad, in spite of what you might hear. S&W have expertise in metallurgy and properly molded MIM parts are the equal of forged parts. They are cheaper to make because there is no need for machining. They are molded to final "net" shape. This does not make them inferior. It makes them less expensive.

S&W's record on MIM is excellent from what I've read online, including 1911's. A bunch of these 1911 manufacturers source their MIM small parts from questionable (possible foreign?) suppliers.

Love my 5906 (acquired in the early 80s). Wish I could find a sub-compact version of this model (in 9mm) that was much smaller & lighter for concealed carry. I haven't been into handguns for a while and am unfamiliar with the current offerings. I just think a want a S & W. Any suggestions?

Or the 3914 (blued version of the 3913) or the 908 (value line model of the 3913). The 908 also came in a stainless version (the 908S).
Do a search for 3913 on this site. Nothing but rave reviews. Regarded by many as the best compact 9MM on the market today

I'm new to this forum, but this thread caught my attention. Although I currently have an M&P 9c, my first auto ever was a 6906 that I carried as a reserve officer in the St. Louis area. I love the M&P but reallyregret getting rid of the 6906.....
