4" 29-2, how much should I pay?

No, the grips are post 1969.....someone swapped them for the original Cokes, probably sold them for almost as much as you paid for the gun! Very nice .44 Magnum!

I have a question about the grips.

Here's a picture of this newly acquired .44mag on top of my '73 29-2. The grips are different.

So what exactly is on the 1956 gun?

Also (and I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting this), if anybody here has a correct set of grips that would complete my gun for sale, please send me a PM.

Thanks, SandSpider

Those are target grips that came out in the late sixties and ran through the seventies. They would be correct for your 29-2.Its wearing grips from the eighties.

This is exactly what should be on your gun. I just picked this gun up yesterday for $575. It didnt have the correct grips on it but I had this set waiting for it. It is a 4 screw also but is model marked 29.Yours is a few years earlier. That is a really nice find. Congrats.
Twig.

For someone who didn't know what they were looking at,you certainly made the right decision! If you do decide to replace the grips with a set of appropriate cokes, expect to pay at least two thirds of what you got the gun for.

Well, now that we know what it it actually is, the price you paid was very good for a pre-model "44 Magnum."

As stated, it has stocks from 1968-1981. The ones with the big cut out are post 1982.

These are pre-1957 target stocks. Note the diamond around the screw and no relief on left side.

Standard targets stocks from 1957-1968 look similar except they have a relief cut for loading. Your 44 Magnum came with what is called "Cokes" because of the shape when viewed from behind. They also have a larger area of checkering. They came on the 44 and 41 Magnums made 1955-1967. These are very expensive and hard to find. Expect to pay $400-$600 for a nice set. Think about how badly you want the gun to have the correct stocks.

Here's a photo posted by member VM comparing standard "Diamond Targets" on left and "Cokes" on right.

Thank you guys for your generous help.

I have received an offer for a set of grips that I would like to purchase for my gun.

Just to be absolutely sure (not questioning the seller's integrity in the least), and with the seller's permission, here's what I'm looking at:

If the experts here can confirm that these are correct for my gun, I'll go ahead and make it complete.
