Picked this one up the other day SN S66xxx. It aint no safe queen but she's very clean for being 60 some odd years old. All the numbers match and it doesn't seem to have been shot much.

Nice gun! Its in better condition than my slightly earlier 4", S63XXX.

I've always wondered about the 38 specials that were available for use in a 38/44. Did someone come out with a hot 38 special commercially manufactured or what?

Yes, there was a 38/44 loading. IIRC it featured a 158gr bullet at around 1100fps.

narc766, Very nice HD! I hope you will let us know how it shoots. I got my 1st HD earlier this week and will soon post pics of it in the pre-war section of the forum. Enjoy yours! Jerry

That is a nice one there Narc. It is just slightly older (within weeks) of my December find, a 5" target converted HD. Enjoy.

Narc,
That is a real nice 1946 vintage transition HD. Enjoy it as they are hard to find with all matching parts!

There is a lot of speculation that the left over barrels from pre war production were used on the early transition guns until they were used up. Don't you just love those HDs!
