Anyone have an earlier M48. # K 368119,"no XXX's", shipped 7-1959? Big Larry

Nope...

but I have K388774 which shipped in march 1960. It is an interesting gun with 8 3/8" bbl., TT and TH, WO rear sight and a Patridge front sight with a King-style red insert. The stocks are smooth Rosewood targets with no cut-out at all.

The gun is so pretty I bought a 48-4 to shoot.

I also have 8 3/8" M48 # 397770, which letters as a K38 shipped 3-1960. Mr. Jinks makes no apologies for the error, as he checked it out further. Checked and double checked, it came back as a K38. No way to make a M48 into a K38. So it will never letter. Plain gun with diamond target stocks. I too bought a pinned 8 3/8" M48-4 to shoot, but the gun came to me in mint cond.N.I.B. so I won't be firing that one either. Just the collector in me. Later on I traded for another 48 # 419610, 8 3/8", 4 screw, shipped 6-1961. Plain Jane gun with matching numbered magna stocks. Now, I really need a M48 4 screw with a 4" bbl. Thanks, Big Larry

Larry,
K 369744 with 8-3/8" barrel, numbers matching magna grips, standard hammer and trigger. Never lettered it.

Wrong stocks? That's really too bad. I am a stock number freak. Maybe just a freak!! Mine walked into the door at the Big Reno show two years ago by a guy just carrying it in his hand. He stopped at a friend of mines table as he had several Smiths for sale and asked him if he was interested. He told him no, but had a friend that was. He brought the gentleman to my table and we made a deal on his 4 screw M48. All matching and about 98%++ for $625. Made my day. At that show I was able to secure 8 S&W's. All nice, and all pretty good deals. Thanks for the info. BTW, mine was shipped to" Metropolitan Distributors Inc. Albany, NY. July 16th, 1959. 6" bbl., blue finish, and checkered walnut grips." Even much harder than finding a 1959 revolver, was finding original 1959 ammo. I got lucky and found one such box and have never seen another one since. Thanks, Big Larry
