Hi all,

I just bought a used 4006. (Police trade-in maybe?) I got it home and broke it down because the store seemed like they hadn't cleaned it. I cleaned everything, but when I was reassembling it, I came into a problem. I was replacing the slide on the slide rails and I got it past the first sear. At this point, I attempted to push the second set of sears (On the right side of the frame) down and while wrestling with it, I managed to cock the hammer back.

So now the slide is between the first sear and the second set of sears (which I believe is a set of safety sears?) The magazine won't seat since the slide is partially forward and I cant think of any way to get the second set of sears to go down enough to return the slide to battery. So my question is this: Is there anything I can do to get the second set of sears down, and the slide back to battery? Or is it off to the gunsmith?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't send it to the gunsmith.

Pull the slide forward again, and the hammer will fall when the slide goes forward enough.

When putting the slide back on, I usually use my finger to push the ejector/mag safety lever down, then for the next two a punch or pencil...you got to get them pushed down flush with the fame.

You don't have to send it to the gunsmith.

KPsquared, worked like a charm. I guess I just needed to manhandle it a bit. Function tested A-OK. Thanks a bunch for the tips.

I use the slide stop pin side to move the other two levers down. It's always handy as that's the next this used in the assembly.

I hadn't even thought about using the slide stop pin to push down those levers. But I just tried it and it definitely works. Thanks everyone.
