Brand new to the scene. This forum is very educational. So much so, I bought a CS40 (sorry, not computer literate enough to take and post pics). My question is will the 4040 mags fit a CS40? I am thinking about buying a 4040, and the thought of having interchangeable mags will help sway me. Thanks.

Hello Kaceemissouri,
Let me be the first to welcome you to the Smith & Wesson forum.
To answer your question, NO.
I just did some testing;
The 4040PD magazine is based on the 3913 single stack - Lady Smith and NL variants.
The CS-40 magazine is based on the 45XX series with a small spacer in the rear of the
mag to take up for the shorter .40 S&W round.
Also similar is the 10XX series but have a tang on the side of them that will not allow insertion.
All that being said, the 4516 and 4506 series will work,
BUT the rounds can float from front to the rear in the mags.
They will function perfectly though and also lock back after the last round is expended,
I do it all the time at the range.
Does anyone else see a potential problem here?
Oh and by the way, I would still buy the 4040PD.
It fits all the 3913 leather and you can swap the Hogue grips with the 3913 and it is also a great firearm.

Thanks, Bad Man, I appreciate your help. I am on my way to the gun shop to pick up the 4040. Again, thanks for the info.

The 4040 PD does not fit all leather made for a 3913, but it fits all leather made for a 3513 NL or its equivalents. The reason is that some holsters, such as the Mitch Rosen Workman, are fitted for the profile of the front of the frame of the regular 3913.

Mr. PeterBergh,
It most certainly does.
I believe I said "It (The 4040PD) fits all the 3913 leather", that being said,
I did not say anything about it strictly fitting the Lady Smith or NL leather, which it does also.
But if you are referring to the fact that it is not a perfect (tight) fit due to the LS, NL and the 4040PD have a tapered dust cover, then you are correct because it is not in full contact with the front portion of the frame @ the dust cover.
But,
It will "fit" just fine, they all lock in with the slide and trigger guard contact, as opposed to it not (fitting) going in at all.
A Std. 3913 holster will have a larger area for the straight dust cover which will accommodate all those variations, (i.e. Std 3913, Lady Smith, NL and the 4040PD).
I hope that I explained it well, if not, please feel free to question my "fit" logic.
I can supply more detailed pictures of leather if necessary.
Regards,
BM1
