Hey, would anyone venture on what would be a good price for a 4040PD in about 95% condition?

I would sure like to see one for that price. The price will really vary by location, but both of the 4040's I have bought, one 99% and the other one NIB, were both around $650. Depending on how many magazines you get, I would probably pay around $500 to $600 for a mechanically sound 95% 4040PD. These don't come up for sale very often, so if the price is fair, don't pass it up.

I was looking at a 4040PD that was used at Kittery Trading Post that they listed as 80% and were asking $565. I thought that was high. On a trip home from OH I stopped in Grice Gun Shop in PA and found a new 4040 PD for $531. It's on it's way to my dealer in NJ and I'm a happy guy. Now to find those Gray LS grips everyone goes on about.

PM sent on the grips, you will need a LS/NL grip pin with the change from the Hogue grips, the pin for the Hogue Grip adapter is a little short.
Also 3913, 3906 and 952 magazines work perfectly (the last two are both a little long).

Then I will be sure to let you know if I see another one. My LGS had two used 4040PD's in the case less than a year ago, one for $425 (good condition) and one for $475 (very good condition). He had a hard time selling them but they eventually went for his asking price. If there was such a thing as a 0909PD (or 9090PD?) I would have been all over them.

I would appreciate any information on affordable and available 4040PD's. They usually last a while in inventory because nobody knows these guns exist. I know the place I bought my NIB 4040 from had been trying to sell on the internet it for around a year, and being in CA, nobody there could buy it in person anyway. I think the closest you will come to a 4040PD in 9mm is a 3914, since all its missing is the scandium alloy.

The last one that I saw, about a year and a half ago, I bought. I paid right around $500 for it in 99% condition. I think that FirebirdV8 is correct that these guns can sit around a while as few know about them and how unique that they are for a Smith semi-auto. While I didn't know the whole story on the gun I jumped on it nonetheless.
I have watched these guns online and have seen the few of them that there are go for as much as in the six hundreds, sometimes less.
I recall the first time that I shot my 4040PD. I was also shooting 9mm that day and I inadvertently filled the 4040PD mag with 9mm. When I pulled the trigger the bullet hit its mark but the slide didn't cycle. I quickly figured out what had happened once I looked at the shell casing. There was zero damage to the gun but boy was that it accurate as a 9mm

I too had been looking for one for quite some time. Generally thought it would be $500--650 depending on condition & mags.
I too stumbled across one in 95% with 2 mags for $450.
Gave myself a paper cut pulling money out of my wallet that fast.
