A couple years ago, someone on this forum was selling a 3913NL for what seemed to be a ridiculously low price. The model number didn't ring a bell so I Googled it and by the time I clicked on the forum tab, someone had said, "I'll take it." Darn. I didn't even know that I wanted one of those until then.

So then the search started, 3913, 3913LS, or 3913NL. I soon realized that there was a dark version of the gun, the 3914 so I included that in my search as well.

I found a scam site selling them for $299 but I didn't bite. I found another scam site using the same pictures. Crumbbums. (I had used my favorite insult from "Johnny Dangerously" but the forum automatically changed it to asterisks)

I found a couple at gun shops outside of my area at good prices but neither would ship. Crumbbums.

Gunbroker always has a plethora of them but the price always climbed above my limit. $500, $600, and even close to $700.

Imagine my surprise when I got a phone call a couple weeks ago with the guy on the other end telling me that I had won his auction of a 3914LS. Woo-hoo!

Found an FFL who didn't charge an arm and a leg to receive it and then had juggle schedules and such. Finally picked it up.

There's an odd marking on the slide from about the rear sight to the ejection port, visible in the picture. The bright line is a reflection. There also a teeny bit of bluing wear at the muzzle.

Taking it apart, I found it to be bone dry but with few signs of use. I'm thinking that whoever had it ran maybe a box of ammo through it. Now I need to head to the range.

So Happy for You!

Congratulations!
I was blessed to buy a 3913NL on this forum from a great contributor by the name of "Casual Smith Nut." The asking price was $450 IIRC. He provided 2 aftermarket mags and one factory magazine. I could not be more pleased with this weapon. It is ideal for appendix IWB carry, which is not an everyday thing for me, rather quite rare for me until I got this pistol. I had heard the praises about it and was especially influenced by the writings of now departed comrade 18DAI. (I still miss him nearly every day.)

I will be interested in what round you like for self defense carry. Mine shoots to point of aim with 147 grain HST rounds. That assumes it is correct to cover the target with the front dot as recommended by 18DAI.

Kind Regards!

I have owned two 3913’s, two 908’s, a 908s, and a 3953. All were purchased used, and the magazine springs were installed backwards in most of those magazines. If your mags refuse to load to full capacity take them apart and check the spring for proper orientation.

Not a bad idea to replace springs in used mags - or at least disassemble and compare to new spring lengths - I have seen an inch or more difference in new and used mag springs. Also replace recoil spring or at least check / compare to new recoil spring.

Every used 3rd Gen magazine I buy gets a cleaning and a new spring. Followers and baseplates are replaced as needed.

Every 3rd Gen gun I buy gets a new recoil spring. Cheap insurance to protect an irreplaceable alloy frame.

A friend of mine had one of those and let me borrow it. What a great little gun! It never malfed. From a sitting braced position it would on occasion, (when I didn’t mess up) put 5 shots right on the button at 25 yards with a 2.5 inch group. Like I said it was a great gun.

I need one! lol

There were a lot more 3913s made than 3914s, so they are easier to find. The 3913 is a bit heavier, but if that and the silver finish don't bother you it's a fine choice.

Sweet piece! I really like the 3900 series Gen 3 Smiths - great pistols. If you are looking, Don Hume and MTR Custom Leather have holsters for your pistol.

If you have a full-size 3rd Gen. 9mm slide and barrel available, temporarily swapping it onto a 3913 (or 3914) frame can easily create a rather interesting CCO-configured carry pistol:

woudstra, depress this tab on the bottom of the magazine with a 5/32 punch or the shank end of a 5/32 drill bit, slide the base plate towards the front while keeping a thumb over the end to capture the magazine spring when the base plate is clear.
