I have a model 41 with a 5" sporter barrel. Thanks to this forum I have been able to determine that it is a barrel made by one of the custom gunsmiths from a 7 inch. Has a S&W Keng rear sight and a ramp front. Shoots great and is light to handle. With the light trigger, not too sure how good a field gun it would be from a safety standpoint though. The other barrel is a 5 1/2 inch heavy S&W factory barrel. What puzzles me is that it has a leaf spring style millet rear sight like you would find on a newer S&W target revolver. Can anyone tell me when these barrels were made?
thanks
Dan

As I recall, S&W made some barrels with the revolver rear sight in the early 90s. There was a member on here who was looking for one of those barrels to complete a collection. A quick look on Numrich's website shows they have both the 5.5" and 7" with the revolver rear sight.

Millett site about 1994 followed by the S&W Pistol site and then the present Keng site (bomar similar) and now marked with S&W logo I believe. According to Std.Cat. of S&W by Supica & Nahas the D&T started in '94 and 5" optic only in '96 and Laminated grips in '97

I ended up trading the 41 in on an Arrieta shotgun this weekend. The gun had the 5 inch sporter barrel on it. I either have to send them the 5 1/2 inch Heavy barrel with the Millet sights or $200. 5 1/2 inch also was equiped with a Tasco Optima holo sight that has a base that bolts onto the rear sight screw holes and then the Optima bolts to the base. They didn't want the Optima. If someone wants this barrel I could probably send them the $200 and not offend them. Anybody needs the Optima, I'd sell it for $75.
