41 mag questions

I am looking at trading my M&P 40 compact for a 57-1 in 90-95% as stated by the owner with a slight mark at the top of the were the finish is gone.


Price wise, and caliber wise, I am not a revolver type person at all. But since today I am picking up a NIB 29-10 , to go with my 1955 27, and since I am looking at selling my MP40c. Does this look like it could be a fair trade ? My MP40c is 2nd owner and probably around 500 - 1000 rounds through it. All accessories from the factory and box / papers etc. I Cerakoted the slide Stainless color and polished the barrel and feed ramp. I nickel plated the controls as well. Its a nice piece, but I just replaced it with one of my 229's I just finished as my bedside gun. And to be honest , they would probably replace the 229 as a bedside or bedroom gun someplace.

So what do you guys think ? Worth while trade ? Its not something I ll go hunting with, or probably even shoot that much to be honest. But from a collect ability / investment point, I know these arent super collectible. But do they lose value , or are these on a steady pace ?

I read some posts here were people say they are making a come back etc. But I guess I just dont want to trade down to something and have something that isnt worth much next year in case I decide to sell it or something.

I constantly buy and sell. So thats a good chance this wont last if I shoot it and dont like it. But on other hand, it may keep me from shooting this NIB 29-10 also and sell that instead. Who knows ?

But I guess since you guys are more revolver oriented then myself, I was just looking for a reassuring , yes its a worth while trade, or its just an ok trade, or nah.... dont do it.

** Edit ** I picked the gun up and its very nice. But now I ve found Garand I want , so I guess its short life with me , atleast I got to take a picture of it next to my new 29-10 LOL ! **

Do the deal. Original 57s have been climbing n price and M&P40c are a dime a dozen.

The grips on the gun in the picture are worth about $70 themselves.

The dash 1 is a little less collectable than the no dash, but the 4" barrel is a plus. I think that gun would be a hoot to shoot plates or pins with some reduced power handloads.

Todd - I am going to go against the grain and say leave it be. You are obviously not a revolver man and probably won't get much good out of this gun. It's another caliber for you to hassle with and .41 Magnum ammo is neither cheap nor easy to come by, unless you handload.

You might as well save yourself the annoyance. Let it go to someone who appreciates it. I am not being critical of you. I just know that I have bought a gun or two on a lark, and then ended up wondering why. (Usually these are the ones I lose the most money on, or have the hardest time selling.

)

I have learned it is better to stick with the things that really interest you - unless money is just no object. JMHO, and best of luck to you, whatever you decide.

Go for it in a N.Y. minute but then what do I know. I would but I reload and love revolvers and not autos.

Go for it!!!! Even though it is a -1 which ins not quiet as desirable right now but will be. You will have some very nice trading stock. Basides if you get into reloading, you can have a blast with the 41 magnum.

You already have a Model 29 and a Pre-27, yet you're not a revolver guy. If you're not handloading and don't intend to start, nor hunting deer or pigs, I'd say the .41 mag is probably not good for you.

Quality .41 JHP ammo is now running about $1/bang or slightly more. It takes a lot of cash to keep factory ammo for .41 and .44. Reloading is almost a "must" for this caliber, especially if you want lower-powered loads.

IF, however, you're just trying to put together a decent N-Frame collection, it certainly belongs there. But unless you have aspirations to also buy the Models 21,thru 28 and a M58, I'd let it pass.

This is the reason I don't own a .44Mag... I have four .41 Mags already and I don't need to stock yet another expensive caliber.

Thanks guys. I am thinking it might be a little more fun then the MP40c.

As far as practicality of things go. If I use that thinking. Things like my 1919a4 and things of that nature I wouldnt own either. No practical use for that thing other then it will display nicely in my new shop LOL.

But honestly I just thought it would be cool to have another wheel gun and it was offered in trade to me for the mp40c. Which while I like it , its common as a belly button compared to the 57-1 I would think.
