HI ALL....After all these years finally got around to trying AAC #9 in my Magnums....been reading a LOT of good re this powder in 357,41 & 44 magnum...now I know why.....

Load data as follows:
New Starline Cases....WW Large Pistol Primer...17grains AAC #9...
Bullet is H & G # 258..BAllISTI-CAST mold #258...221 grains KEITH SWC..Lyman #2 Alloy...sized to .410"...

HEAVY BLAST & CONCUSSION....Long Flaming Fireball.....CLEAN burning with little residue....

OK...shooting off the bench at 25yds. to test the load....this is as close as I can hold with these 60yr. old eyes...further testing to follow at 50 & 100yds...

Weapon is S&W M57 Serial S238xxx 1967 Vintage...Herrett Jordan made to measure grips...THE only way to tame these Magnums...THIS 41 MAgnum ALWAYS shot well...

I'm glad you posted this...I've been using AAC #2 and #5 and was thinking of trying AAC #9 for my .357 & .44. I've been using 2400 but after reading this I'll give #9 a try.

front sight

Sarge,
Do you have trouble with that orange front sight blending in with that orange target center? I do, on a Redhawk I shoot, and have been thinking of changing the sight.
Sorry, if this is a little of subject!
Dick

Dear REDDOG....No..no trouble with the orange dot...I use a 6 o'clock hold....and place the dot on top of the front sight...am about an inch or two high at 25yds....this way I can use a dead on hold out to 75yds or so when hunting.....

That's mighty good shootin' for eyeballs of any age, let alone 60. Beautiful grips, too. I've got a 4 lb bottle of AA9C (not AA9) that I'm going to have to give a try.

sight

Pete,
I use a bottom hold, too, but have to be careful because I use an orange spot for a center on my targets. I have about 15 years on you, so that's probably most of the problem!

CP1969,
Are you anywhere near Hutch?
Dick

That's excellent shooting...and grouping at 25 yards. Is that about an inch and a quarter group?

I have found that H-110, W-296, 2400, and AA9 all have the ability to group tightly. It just depends on which powder the particular handgun likes.

Years ago I bought my "lifetime" supply of H-110. I have since found out the above info. So now I have a few cans of the others around in case I find a good load with one of the "other" powders.

Thank you all for your comments.....I have found AAC #9 to be MOST accurate in all my Magnums so far.....and it is also the cleanest....H110 and 296 leave unburned powder no matter what I do...
ALSO...I am going to put in a plug for the "made to measure" Herrett Grips on THIS S&W...I believe the grips are the main reason I can shoot THIS S&W well....These grips take the sting..the twisting...the jarring shock OUT of the revolver...sure you still get recoil...but its straight back with much less muzzle flip.....these grips force you to maintain the SAME hold on the weapon....I have them on ALL my S&W Magnums and they are WELL worth the price ,,,,,do yourself a favor and try a set...you'll NEVER look back....

Too bad!

I'm southwest of Hutch a ways. I have a range and benchrest behind my house. Thought maybe you could shoot with me.

I appreciate the offer! I belong to a club that's 45 miles SW of me and I hardly ever make it down there. Plus, ranges are a little too formal for me. What I'd like to do is what you've done--get my own place to shoot.

That's what a good magnum revolver can do when it's being shot by somebody who knows what they are doing! Nice shooting.
