This was my 657 No Dash I acquired from my neighbor. It was in decent condition, but when I get a new to me revolver I sometimes will choose to do a mild enhancement job depending on how I feel about the gun.

On this one I stripped the old grips and went with a gloss clear which really popped the grain out. I also did a SS very minor polish/clean job. Not mirror, just brought some luster back to the old girl. Anyway, I'm happy with the results. And yes I know this can sometimes effect value. But I enjoy the process.

Looks great. I'm like you. Doesn't matter what I buy, I immediately start the detail process. Could be a classic S&W or old outboard motor. I always want to make it the best it can be.

Nice work on the 657! May I ask what you used on the grips? Clear poly? Also, polishing product and technique for the stainless finish? Thanks!

I used 60/40 Poly mixed with mineral spirits, 4 coats with wet sand between each coat. Final step is clear polish and then wax.

Use Mothers with literally just a dab or two of polish and then use very light pressure to go over the SS. I usually take the entire cylinder out and parts to clean throughly. I don't try and polish, I just use the dab of mothers to take off tarnish.
