41 Magnum Model 58

I can't help with fps numbers, but when I bought my Model 58 from my uncle he gave me about 250 rounds varying from 175 grain, 210, and 240 grains, and I was never warned about stressing the frame with the more powerful loads.

All the reading I've done on these 58s says they are pretty stout and can eat up anything you throw at it.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, mine is an ex-San Antonio PD piece.

It's stamped SAPD.

There's a pic of mine one page 27 of the "58 Club" thread.

I've shot well over 1000 rounds of the LAX .41mag and have never had a problem. I haven't bought any for awhile, hope they haven't changed.

I've heard nothing but good about them. I may be the fluke.

It took them over 3 weeks to ship it. They said it would ship in 3-5 days. I sent two emails and left a phone message inquiring as to when it was going to be shipped and they never replied.

When I sent them an email about the ammo after finally receiving it they replied about a week later and sent me a form to fill out so they could track the ammo so they could make sure there wasn't a issue with more .41 Mag ammo.

They said they'd take care of it but they were soo slow in responding to previous emails I figured it would take them forever to make it right and I had already waited long enough so I just had a friend reseat and recrimp it for me.

My friend told me that the bullets were loose enough that he felt they could have moved in the casing from the recoil and jammed the cylinder. They were poorly taper crimped.

Sad because it was the best price I could find for new .41 Mag ammo.

I'm set now for .41 Mag ammo. My friend loaded another 400 rounds for me so that gives me 650 rounds. I'll never shoot that many.

Tonight or this weekend I'll post some pictures of LAX ammunition that I bought in 44 magnum and special and we can see how the crimping compares. I don't know anything about reloading or crimping. Not sure if crimping is done differently on these rounds since they are lead with copper plating, and not FMJ.
I've used a very small amount of Lax 10mm and 44 mag so far and haven't had any issues. Deg. don't want a kaboom.

I was reading on another board, a guy was just delighted to find a Model 58 that had been expensively converted to .45 Colt. I find it hard to see the advantage.

I don't reload and really don't know a lot about ammo either.

Here's a link to the thread in the ammo forum where other members pointed out the problem to me.

LAX .41 Mag ammo

I doubt that it would ever do "damage" other than jamming the cylinder.

I took their advise and gave it to a friend who has been reloading for probably 40+ years.

Like I said, I've heard nothing but good about LAX ammo. This may be a first.

I'm thinking that because it was such a good deal that maybe they got behind in production and sped things up.

I use federal 210 gr, jhp it's pretty hot my 58 barks with it.

I did load some sns casting 215gr swc with unique but I haven't shot it yet.

I did find the cor bon 41 mg ammo but that's for my redhawk
