.410 shells

You might be able to find .410 parts for your Mec 600 Jr to switch from 12 or 20 Ga. set ups.....
or get parts from Mec or a used unit on the internet but that will cost a lot more if you don't already have a Mec loader.

$350 plus for a loader +/-.........

Youtube, Jan 12,2015 has a good thread on setting up for 410 .........
if you dob't have the manual.

Parts adjustment is needed for a correct movement of parts, so the unit
and the hulls are not damaged and put together, correctlyfor a nice finished product.

Is Lee still making the old shotshell Lee Loaders? They used to be available in all sizes and gauges. Slow, but they worked. That's how I started, I still have a 12 gauge set somewhere.

Little off topic but a buddy of mine came by earlier looking for .410 steel shot. Wants to take his young son waterfowling. Never thought about it I guess but dont recall ever seeing it...

At all the outdoor sales up to last month, 410 shells were selling for $40 2.5” & 3” shot in 25 count boxes. I’ve got several boxes of shot and couple 5packs of slugs.

Check out Lanes Reloading in Michigan, a simple internet search will find them. They make a .410 reloading kit similar to the old Lee Loaders.

Ken I probably have the exact same 410 as you.
Those shells hairtrigger has would work just fine for your purposes IMHO.

410 has always been problematic.
I say stock up when you can.

At one of my 3 local Walmart Stores yesterday I took a look as to what they had in the "once upon a time packed" ammo cabinet.
The only shotgun shells in there were Winchester 12 guage and 20 guage.
Also present were zbout a dozen 300 rd boxes of Winchester X.22LR @ $41/box.
The cabinet was 95% empty.

Ive been in two Walmarts lately, both had those $41 a box Winchester's in stock. Apparently not flying off the shelf at that price.

Reading this thread, and seeing many squirrels in the woods this weekend has given me an idea.
I've got an old .410 Lee loader and a two boxes of wads stashed away. Both 2-1/2 and 3 inch wads. I've also got a plastic pop bottle full of #4 shot. I've loaded .410 in the past and they work! I'm going to load some 2-1/2 inch .410 shells with 4 shot and go squirrels hunting. All I need are some cases. I'm going to advertise for some at my club. Hope I find some. I don't need many.
A couple places I go to restrict you to shotguns. This should be just the ticket for them limb chickens.

Yeah, I looked at a couple of Lee-type loading setups, but I don't have any empty hulls, wads, or shotgun primers. I do have some shot. But none of that helps me in the short run.
P. S. The hand loading setup sold by X-Ring shooters looks like a quality tool.

I reload 12 Ga, shotgun ammo but did not want get into the little .410
since the guys that do load them, told me how it was a PITA..........
and at the time ammo was all over the place, so I bought two cases.

The 410 & 28 Ga are two fun shotguns to shoot but they are hard on the wallet.

I understand using .410 and 28 ga. when the game requires the ga. but if the ga. is not required I just load light loads in the 12 ga. I can pick up for free all the 12 ga. hulls I want but I have to buy .410 and 28 ga. and they won't reload as many times as 12 ga. so that makes them more expensive too shoot.
I really like the 28 for skeet and the best day I ever had was with a .28. I missed shot 101 and ended with 199 out of 200. Larry

I was in my local Walmart this week and the only shotshells on the shelf were some Federal 28 ga. A buddy gifted me a handful of vintage Peters paper hull . 410s this week, complete with the early box. They are 3" #7.5 shot. I'll post a picture of the vintage box later. Pretty cool to have.

I just went on ammoseek.com and there were Winchester 3" #6s listed as available. Good luck.
