I had not shot my 29-2 in some time, so I decided to use it in Bowling Pin matches, something I shoot regularly. I cast a lot of Lyman 429421 bullets some while ago and lubed them with NRA formula lube. I seated the bullet over 7.5gr of Winchester 231 powder with a normal CCI LP primer in .44 magnum brass.

I found this load to be quite pleasant to shoot, and it removed the pins from the table with much more authority than either 180gr .40 or 200gr .45 bullets, and it is quite accurate.

I tried some full charge .44s, an they removed the pins with considerably more authority. :)

Sounds like a good load. It's always fun to see the pins fly off the back of the stand. I made up my own pins using coffee creamer jugs filled with water and frozen. Not sure how much they vary from density of wood, but my 1911 clears them really well with 6.0 grains of Unique using 230gr Berry's plated.

429421 is tried and true as it gets. My favorite 44 to cast, I like pushing them with unique.

I never reloaded for a 44 Mag but you made me look at Midway
for the types of lead bullets that are out there for reloaders.

I don't know if you use these two but the big flat front nose surface sure looked good to me for knocking down pins.......

Oregon Trail 310gr and Cast Performance 300gr...........with that weight and nose even a moderate velosity should do the job w/o the higher velositys and recoil. Maybe I'm wrong and just the little 240gr will do the job but knocking those pins over has to be a HOOT !!

A group from a local church shoots bowling pins for fun(not competition). I happen to be shooting my 44Mag at the range when they showed up. They all started asking me what I was shooting. After they found out, they asked me to see if I could smack the pins. They had 5 set out. I loaded up a full cylinder of MO 240 grn SWC's over a dose of AA9 in my 629 3" and proceeded to smack all the pins knocking them halfway downrange. All the 9mm shooters in the group refused to shoot the last round in the cylinder! I love those who say the 45 ACP is so much better than the 9mm. Pa-lease, I'll stick with my 44.

my everyday load is that bullet and 6.5-7.0 of 231. nice easy shooting load and quite accurate too.

I've shot thousands of that one in 44 spl and magnums. 7.5 unique in the spl. 16.5 of 2400 in the special or 18.5 in the magnum is off the charts in accuracy, consistently 1" or less at 25 yds. That cast from quenched wheelweights.

With that bullet, I use 7g 231 in a magnum case. Been my light load for 20+ years.

In a special case I use 6.5g 231 which is also a very nice load.
