.44 Double Action, First Model

For your viewing pleasure ... a very clean .44 Double Action, First Model. Shipped to Montgomery Ward in Chicago in 1892, and refinished by the factory in 1955.

(I know ... the thought of this beautiful .44 spending part of its life in Chicago gives me shivers, even though I know it was a very different place 120 years ago ...)

Here's another Chicago Montgomery Ward S&W. This one is a Frontier 44/40 that shipped in December of 1900.
This one ended up on a ranch on the South Dakota - Montana border the same year. It has been fired very little, but according to the family, was stored in the chicken coop to run off varmints...... (didn't do the finish any favors....)

And here is mine, shipped May of 1900...with a "folk art" front sight. A coin has been used to replace the original blade.
