I found this old frame, then I found a bag of parts.
I think it is a .44 Hand Ejector, 2nd Model based on the SN.
Was going to sell the frame, but now would like to see if I can make it a shooter.
Can y'all recommend a gun smith near me for the project?
I am in Sherman, TX.
Probably have missing or broken parts, so also a source of parts?
Thanks for your help.

Is the cylinder numbered the same as the frame? How about the assembly number on the yoke and side plate? Do they match the number in the yoke cut? If the numbers match, you may be able to assemble it yourself.

SN on cylinder matches frame. Do not see an assembly number on the side plate. Only see 4 screws, so must be missing one? See a little piece that looks to me like it is broken.

I looks pretty complete to me, David. You seem to be missing the thumb latch and crown nut as well as the upper sideplate screw. Those can be found fairly easily as parts from the Model 1917 will work. I can't see into the trigger, but the hand is still attached so the hand lever and spring are probably still there. I can't identify the part at the lower left. Perhaps someone else can. I think it can be put back together and function. You really don't need the upper sideplate screw for it to function. But, having the thumb latch and nut will make opening the cylinder easier.

Oh, I just realized I didn't see the cylinder stop, screw and spring. Are they still in the frame?

The main problem is the cyl hand sticking out from the trigger appears to be missing the nose that turns the cyl.

The bare metal piece at the lower left doesn't go to the gun, although I can't really tell what it is.

So you need:

Cylinder hand
Cyl release button and threaded retaining nut
top side plate screw
cyl stop bolt and spring although the screw is there. Can you take a photo of the other side of the gun so we can see if it's there or not?

None of those parts are difficult to find and this supplier likely has them all:

ASSEMBLY (factory work, soft fitting) #s: These multi-digit numbers of 3 to 5 digits, are on the yoke at the hinge, in the 'yoke cut' of the frame opposite the yoke near the hinge (usually accompanied with the inspector's letter or # code stamp of approval, but not always), and inside of the sideplate, for the pre war and early post war period thru ~early 1958. Once the gun is shipped, the only use for the assembly # is to confirm they match on all three parts it's stamped on, and are original to the gun. These are still in use to this day.

Agreed.
AND- you need a mainspring. That one is busted.
According to your pic, the cyl stop is in the frame.

Thanks for the info. I'm not very mechanical so need a gun smith to put it back together. Also need a few parts. Guess the gun smith can order them from the supplier noted.
So need a gun smith in my area if anyone knows of one.
Assembly number on frame at the yoke is 60124. Saw an assembly number on one other part, also 60124. Do not know what the part is called. No assembly number on the sideplate.

By the way David, the trigger guard is bent (flattened) a bit at the bottom front.

The good news is, it's very easy to fix especially since it's not kinked. The trigger guard is fairly easy to bend. Best done like it is now with the trigger out.

The other part is the yoke, it holds the cyl.

Look carefully with a flashlight it's there on the back side of the side plate in one of the milled slots, pretty small #s.

Where did you "find" the frame and bag of parts?

Found the assembly number on the side plate, it matches 60124.
Had an old box of stuff I got when my dad died. Had never gone through it. Found the frame, and then looking through the box for something else, came up with the bag of parts.
Thank you all for the info and feedback.
Sounds like no one knows a gun smith in my area.

Looks like a good DIY project to me. Great opportunity to learn. :D
I'm not sure if you'll find a gunsmith willing to spend the time to find the missing parts or put them all together. Most are already buried in work. They got too many quicker jobs that'll pay better. If you do, it won't be cheap.

If all else fails, I'm sure you can easily sell it here on the forum. I know I'd be interested. ;)
