Not much to tell really other than a very good friend told me about the gun, specifically it was up for sale and go get it.. I just got lucky... There is more to it.. I'll post Roy's letter on it soon...

Here is the history - special factory zero prefix and marked on the in-strap “Club Pistol”. Shipped from the factory Nov. 21, 1906 to F. W. Wakefield, Springfield, MA. who was in the United States Ordnance Dept. and one of the area’s top handgun competitors. It was one of the first 12 Triple Locks built. From Wakefield the gun went to Mahlon Frank, President of the California Revolver Asso. in the 1930’s, who also was a top competitive shooter and was an alternate at the L.A. Olympics in 1932. The revolver is factory refinished showing stamps under the grips “5-45" indicating date of return. The cylinder was replaced and numbered to match at time of the return. The original cylinder which is included with the gun shows 50% blue and pitting. The pitting occured when left in a dark room due to the chemical fumes. By family tradition, Mr. Frank returned it to the factory at the end of WW11 for a new cylinder and refinish as the pitting was too deep to polish out. Gun comes with S&W Jinks letter and notes from Frank to his wife regarding the gun on his stationary written in 1948. Thanks for the correction.. I get confused sometimes... ;)

That is one gorgeous AND historical TL Target. Bravo!

Don't we all (get confused sometimes). Gun Club Fan has quoted some references in club gun books to "New Sentury".

The 'Club Pistol" stamp on a revolver causes me to chuckle at the old timers.

Hi

Hi
We only know of 3 now.
091 Jim Fisher
088 Don Mundell
096 You

There was one more that sold a couple years ago but don't have the serial number.
it had been refinished also.

Mine is all Original with a extra numbered 44 Russian Cyl.

Jim

Bring it to Spokane we can take a picture of the two together.

Thanks Jim:

I planned on building out a nice display but the drive time both directions is too involved... I work barely have time for Spokane even flying there and back.. Nevertheless, I have time for the bar and look forward to see you Jim..

Jim, I think you are referring to 095, which is said to be marked "Club Pistol" like the one in the original post; it was sold about a decade ago by a well-known dealer in prime S&W revolvers. It may have been sold again more recently, but I have no information on that.

Mark, I wonder if the original cylinder on Club Gun 096 chambers .44 Russian and the replacement cylinder .44 Special?

And since I'm asking questions about the gun that started this thread, that is a 7-1/2" barrel, right?

In conference with DP... We are discussing this subject and he feel the second was is the case with other Club gun delivered with the pistol from factory (BTW if SW calls it a pistol so will I).

I'm glad you got 096, it is a great gun! I kept looking at it when if first became available. I told our friend DP about it.
I have the original of this picture that was used in "BULLET HOLES". Here is a picture of the cover. Wakefield's not pictured in it like the others. He does have a quote, however. I have two other group shots of the members of the Springfield Revolver Club. Wakefield is pictured in it along with a young Dr Calkins.
Jim Fisher said there are three know, 088 shipped to G. Allen, 091 to Calkins and 095 shipped to Wakefield. In my records I have a note that David Carroll had 095 for sale in one of his lists. 095 shipped to J H (Joseph Hawes) Wesson. I have never seen it and I don't know if David will say who he sold it to. If I find more on Wakefield, I'll let you know.
