44 Hand Ejector W&K

Went by a local shop today and saw a 44 hand ejector 3rd model Wolf & Klar type. The gun had a heavy turn line muzzle wear, the grips had some wear on them but over all in pretty good condition. I would estimate the gun to be about 90% condition Maybe a little more. Get has a lanyard ring which appears to have been factory installed because they serial number is to the right of it. The asking price was $2600. Based on my experience that seems a little high. Any thoughts please .

Too high for me but who knows. There may be someone somewhere who will pay that much for it, but not anyone I know.

Lots of them on GB for less.

That would have to be in pretty high condition (like 90%) for me to consider it.

I have 3 3rd Model W&K 44's...the 2nd models can be had cheaper but not the 3rds. If it's really 90% then that price isn't out of line. I paid in that ballpark for all 3 of mine (2 pre wars and 1 post war transitional). I've paid less but not for a 90% gun.

Let's put it this way, a really nice 4" 3rd model sold on GB last weekend for $5,800...made me feel I didn't pay too much for my 4" at $2300, though mine wasn't as nice.

Not only that, a lanyard ring came on many 2nd models but is not common on 3rd models. That gun might letter as a police revolver which increases value further to people like me.

If I were going to sell mine which I'm not and it is in about a good a condition as anyone could ask it wouldn't be that much. It would be more in the 1800- 2000 range. However if I added the Ivory stocks that I have with it maybe it would reach that price.

I've learned over the years that your estimation of percentage and mine might be very different. What you might call 90% might be 75% to me.
All I can say is that without pics and more info, its gonna be hard for anyone to give an accurate appraisal. Not all 3rd models were shipped to W&K, so that might affect the value, too.

raljr1, did you check to see if the barrel serial number matched the butt SN? Can you post the SN? A while back, one of our forum members posted a 2nd model .44 that had later received a 3rd model barrel.

With barrel to the right (correct way to read pre war serial #s on the butt) the lanyard swivel will be to left of the #, 1/10" forward of center, and serial # stamped offset to the right to be a factory installation.

Can also be factory installed with swivel 1/10" forward of center but drilled thru the centered serial #. The # will also be restamped on the lower left side of the grip frame, parallel to the butt.

If normal haggle rules apply, $2600 sounds about right to me if it's a legit 90%. I think the low end price would be $2000, high would be $2500.

I gave 800 and change on GB for mine. Original nickle, HB hammer and the numbered magnas came with it. I think it was a bargain.
