So like the title says, I have a bunch of home cast 215 Lead semi wads. They are sized and have Alox type lube with a Lyman gas check on the bottom. I made these many years ago when I was still using the Alox type lube, hard red lube these days. They were stored in an airtight container and still look ready to use.

In the past, I had tried several different loads with these. I lost the load data I had. No matter, I never really found that good load for them.
I was loading them with 2400 or Unique, still good to go powder for me.

I was shooting them in a 4" 29-2 but these days a 6" 629 will be the gun for them.

Ideally a good all around fun load, not overly hot but not a powder puff either.

What would you guys make??

FWIW, I use 19.0 grs of 2400 with just about any .44 bullet from 225 to 275 grains and never have any complaints about accuracy. In your 6" barrel, velocity should be around 1250 FPS. Not hard on the gun, especially with lighter bullets like your 225. If that's too much steam, I drop back to 8.5 of Unique or, even further, to 7.0 of W231.

I think I'll give the 19g of 2400 a try!

Have been loading Nosler 210 HP with 22g of 2400, it seems to be stout load.

My old notes show I was making 41 mags with a 215g lead bullet and 16.5 of 2400, noted as heavy feel load. It's over ten years ago so I can't remember the details...

Thanks for the info!!!

I cast and coat the Lee 114gn SWC. These like to be pushed well above powder puff velocities to be their most accurate. I use 8.5gn Titegroup and see 1100fps from my 4" Tracker.

My 212RFN sized .430 sends happy vibres to my heart with 10.0gr Power Pistol in my 8 3/8'' 629.10.0 gr of Unique would about do the same with less noise. Not mousefart loads but not armor piercing either.Just what the doctor ordered for easy plinking days!

8 to 10g of Unique or 7 to 9g of Green Dot would work well in my experience.

9 grains of Unique under a 240 grain hard cast LSWC. More oomph than 44 Special, way less oomph than 44 Magnum, and very accurate.

A long time ago I used to load that bullet in 44 special cases and used 8.0 grs of Unique . It was a great load , accurate and easy to shoot . In a magnum case I would look at 8.5grs of Unique . 5.5 grs of Bullseye /700X/ titegroup would work well also in a magnum case . Regards Paul

Whatever happened to the request for 215 gr. bullet loads?

The Ray Thompson-designed Ideal 429215 gas check is an old design still in production by Lyman, was the first bullet I cast and shot in my Ruger super Blackhawk, and s&w 624, in 44mag I used 26gr h-110 flat shooting and accurate in the 624 44spl.I skipped the gas check and used 5gr. bullseye soft easy shooting load. weight varied between 215 to 210 with alloys I was using.
