Recently bought a 442. I was about to go to the range yesterday and was showing the gun to a freind. Noticed the barrel is screwed into the frame crooked. Not so you would notice unless your were looking close and with good light. Well I phoned Smith and Wesson. And their going to have me ups it to them. In talking this over with freinds, I think I am very glad that I noticed the problem before I went to the range. Seems a safety issue to me. I think I will ask Smith and Wesson for a replacement rather than a repair. My buddy was saying "If those threads have been damaged their never going to be as strong as they should be." Anyone got any thoughts on something like this.

i don't blame you for being concerned. you purchased this piece for serious reasons, and it is disconcerting to have it in its curent condition. I agree , i would ask for a replacement just to alleviate any future doubts.

S&W is probably the expert here.

I once returned a 637 to them and was surprised that they reclocked the barrel - and returned it with a fair-sized burr on the frame as a result of doing it. I probably should have immediately returned it again, but the gun has been fine since. The burr is just annoying and in such a place that it would be hard to remove without damaging the finish.

Whatever they do, you could just keep records of what happened and if the gun ever gives you more problems, I doubt they would have any issues with making it right. If you get the gun back and it works/looks fine, be happy. Just keep the records, just in case.
