45 auto rim..... ?????

I just purchased a S&W Classic mod 22 1917 and the mod 22-4 inch. I was told that 45 auto rim ammo can be used in these revolvers without using the moon clips... Is this true ??? If so, any recommendations on brand??

Yes, as far as I know, all double action .45acp revolvers can use .45AR. That's what the cartridge was made for. There aren't too many choices as far as I know of factory 45AR. Remington, I think, has always made ammo in that caliber. These days, someone probably makes a defense HP round for it.

Buffalo Bore has about 6 different offerings, and Black Hills sells .45AR in a 250gr swc at 750fps.

I saw some of the Black Hills in a red box for sale at a gun shop for about $45 per box of 50, IIRC, a couple months back. I was tempted, but have 100 or moon clips, half and full, that are easy to use, so I passed.

Actually, for just plain old shooting, I usually use acp rounds and pull them out with my fingers, no problem.
