45 CALIBER internet match

Too bad it wasn't two handed five shots at 50 ft. I coulda been a contenda.

Shot this afternoon, but as I suspected not even close to being a contender! Oh well, I'll try to get them sent in tomorrow - at least the pix of the guns might be interesting.

My old 45, I gave it a shot. First shot was always great, but as I got to 10 things went down hill fast.

I had a ball and shot a box of my home cast with 3.5 grains Bullseye.

These were the first five of the right target below.

I wore the original finish off and had it blued.

The front sight came off and each time hit me in the forehead. I welded it on.

I put a rod in the grip housing and knurled the front strap in a lathe (by hand) I just rolled the chuck.

The work on the gun was all done thousands of rounds ago. I shot Bullseye for years.

2 1/4" is not good enough. Maybe next month....

;)You shot better once the pressure was off. :D I am still in search of a one hole group. Going to try my model 25 one more time.

Can't break sub 2" so far, in fact I'm struggling just to break 3"

Guns;

Kimber Cust II
S&W M1917

The m1917 has a good SA trigger, but tiny sights. All shooting at 30ft was SA, rt. hand.

Best effort was 2&5/8" using Rem 'high terminal performance' 230gr jhps. These chrono About 756fps in this gun's 5.5" bbl.

The Kimber has good sights, but while it's a good trigger....it's a little harder to work with shooting one handed bullseye style. That's Ok for me, I don't think I'd really want it any lighter for my needs.
The left target was kind of funny. About 5 rounds in, I threw the wide one. Pissed, I just fired the second 5 quickly and they all basically made one ragged hole.

I'll have to work some more on my one handed BE style shooting.

OK... my latest, which I believe still makes me last... but if this were to place, I would call for my own disqualification. Reason- I'm pretty sure I went "two hand" hold on rounds 8, 9, and 10.

The other attempts swam (as my friend Engineer1911 put it) in "a sea of ineptitude".

:D

I post this anyway, to show off the grips I just made, my first attempt at stocks for a 1911. Bolivian rosewood with the diamond made out of ebony.

Very nice grips!

Tried again with an old Gold Cup, Series 70 with camel bone grips and a real nice trigger.
Result 2.5 inches on my first try.
This is decent, for me, and I enjoyed the attempt as it was my reward after completing an offhand rimfire match.

Pardon the shadows.

HMMM, I have never seen camel bone grips before. Did you make them yourself?

Hello Mr. M E:
Poor man's ivory!
No sir, I bought them from an ebay seller a couple of years back and really like them.
The right side (not pictured) has more *coloration* and grain, but no actual bark, so they are smooth.
About once or twice a year, I let them languish under a layer of glycerine and then hand rub them before a final wipe down.
Basically, the same treatment as horn or other natural materials.

2" side to side, 1.5" top to bottom
shooting 200 GR. Laser Cast SWC with 4GR Bullseye, right handed
mid 80's Gold Cup, recently rescued and put back into service :)

Not the winner. Sure is fun playing!

This months winner is JoshwyattE2C with 1 1/4".

I had to scroll through the whole month to make sure I had a winner. Lots of beautiful guns. I never saw a Performance center 945 until now.

As Otreb asked,

For the month of November 50 feet two hands

Enter early, Enter often
