Purchased a JM 625 for my 45th birthday. What a great gun. Very, very accurate. Found some 45 auto rim ammo at a gun shop, PMC 200 grain swc-fmj for 25 dollars a box for fifty. My question is about the Rimz polymer moonclips. How well do they work? Not going to use them for competition, just informal target shooting. Let's hear your opinions. Thanks, bodyguard.

While there are some on the forum who swear by them, I'm not one. Maybe I got a bad batch or something. MUCH prefer steel moons to polymer. The ones I got were just waaaaay to "twisty", dumped rounds unintentionally, and did not inspire any confidence for me. The only plus was that they could be loaded, and unloaded, by hand (whether you wanted them to or not). For just range use they are okay but just okay if you get my meaning.
My opinion is stick with steel and a demoon tool.

Happy Birthday bodyguard. I've never needed a reason to buy a 45
caliber Smith, but next birthday I'll take your lead and buy another one.
I've never used the plastic moon clips as the steel ones are plentiful
and inexpensive around here.
45 is my favorite caliber in a Smith revolver. I don't believe for a minute that this one will be your last.

I love them they are so much easier to load and unload. You can even drop them onto the floor with out losing a cartridge.

Then again a $3000 .22lr revolver that doesnt even come with target sites or grips is a different thing altogether.
I like the BD present you chose....
My 47th BD is coming up in 2 weeks and I have to say that after seeing Allens collection I find myself thinking about a .45 ACP revolver.
I sold off all my .45's years ago to consolidate my calibers , perhaps its time to revisit that decision .
Those 4" Model 25's in particular are calling my name in the distance....Hmmmm..

Congrats on the purchase. I like the idea of a 45 for your 45th birthday. I have a little ways to go for that though. I'll be 36 this year, so maybe I should get a .30-06? I could use a new hunting rifle.......

So there IS another caliber other than .357??? Hmmmmm I gonna have to look into this..

hmmm...i just picked up a smith a couple days ago...i do like the idea of a new 45...i could use a semi-auto

I bought a batch of the Rimz clips for my 625 and have no complaints. The metal clips I've tried have been less than fun to use. I think I need a lot more of the Rimz clips, 15 of them aren't NEARLY enough.

The Model 63 is called the 1977 .22/.32 Kit Gun Stainless.
roundbutt or square butt, barrel lengths of 2" to 4".
For my 50th Im getting two x Model 25's.
If a person does NOT need the power of a 44 Mag, then I think a S&W in 45 ACP/Auto Rim is the best choice in a general purpose revolver.
And with the +P type Auto Rim loads from Buffalo Bore, you can pretty much do anything in the lower 48 that needs to be done, by a general purpose carry gun.
I used a Mod 25-2 as a Duty gun for seveal years.
A short while back I got a 325 NG. I like it so much I keep it under my pillow every night...

I've used them in my 610. They work fine with 10mm rounds but don't work with .40S&W (and the factory can't explain why even after sending the clips and spent brass back.) Have not used them in my JM625 and probably won't - the steel moon clips work great and I have a mooning/de-mooning tool, which I highly recommend.
+1 on the comments about this not being your last 45! I have the 625 in both .45Colt (Mtn Gun) and .45acp (JM), a 325 Night Guard, a .460Mag, two 1911s (Kimber TEII and S&W1911PD), a Ruger Alaskan .454Casull/.45Colt and a Dan Wesson .460 Rowland/.45acp. And I'll definitely buy more - I'm already eying the Thunder Ranch in .45acp!
