What say you, wise ol wheelgun nuts?!? Is this cartridge a good idea, ego driven, a flop?

Got my vote in, I happen to think its like boobs on a boar.... unless of course the plan was to be a pain in the butt for reloaders, then its a rousing success

The .327 Federal Magnum is just as popular...or not!

True, but 327 Magnum actually brought something to the table that was not done before.... (i.e. a faster 32). 45 GAP gives you standard 45 ACP performance at +P pressures... (although I will concede that it allows grip frames to be smaller...)

It was an okay idea with awful real world results.

The idea was to fit a 45 caliber in a standard Glock; which kinda sorta happened, except they had to modify the slides to be bigger, so they no longer shared the same holsters as standard Glocks. Since it is no longer a standard Glock size, the whole concept failed.

It was self-defeating.

It appears to be just something else to sell to the one-size-fits-all mentality buyers (bureaucrats) who must have a lot of money to throw around and maybe not all that much experience with firearms. Modern ammunition for the minor calibers being as effective as it seems to be, I don't see any point in it.

Fine idea, too many misinformed folks opining of its value, and because of their knowledge deficit, categorically pronounce it a failure. I have a G-38, and find it a much better gun ergonomically then the Glock 45 ACP's offerings.

I've never owned a .45GAP, and probably never will. I don't currently own a .45ACP, either. I don't know if the GAP will ever achieve a lasting importance, but if the GAP had been invented first, would people be clamoring for a longer cartridge requiring a longer grip frame, with essentially the same performance? I doubt it.

Well said. The whole idea behind the GAP concept was to retain 45 ACP performance in a Glock pistol, in a frame the same size as their 9mm offerings. I predict that Glock will also come out with a single stack pistol, albeit less rounds, with a slimmer grip profile. Even I will admit the Glock grip ergonomics is an acquired taste.

The only thing I know about it is I occasionally find a piece of brass marked 45 GAP in bulk once fired 45 ACP brass I buy. It isn't as aggravating as the small primer brass, however.

. GAP.45:D

About the only people around here that have them are the NYS Police.

According to my rather high ranking trooper buddy that was done to make the gun easier to fit the hands of the little people they now hire. (His words)

In NYS convoluted thinking they also though having a not so popular cartridge would make ammo harder to get if the gun was lost or stolen from an officer.

I do know when the ammo shortage was at its worst a few months ago due to national concerns and the passing of the NY " SAFE" act, about the only ammo that stayed on the shelves was the GAP stuff. One of my buddies wanted to get a GAP pistol because of ammo in stock at that time but the dealer (rather big shop) said he was the first person that ever wanted to purchase one!:)

Pa state police use Glock in 45GAP

The Bedrock PD used slingshots as I recall. I'll bet a prized 1911 that PA State PD's 45GAPs will go the same way as the Dinosaurs within a few short years too.

Yabba Dabba Doo ;-)

Probably. I have yet to see 45gap ammo anywhere but the few used GAP Glocks I see never sit around long. Go figure

This was a flop. The cartridge was developed to put 45 ACP power in a Glock with the same grip size as a Mod. 17. Never took off. Was just confusing to everyone.

I know folks who bought them and liked them. Not too sure they own them any more, though. I kinda thought the idea was misplaced, if you want a G17 frame size, why not get a G17? It is more about shot placement than bullet size anyway, really......

I like the gap cartridge. They are easy to tell from the std .45 so it makes them easy to load up on a bunch of moon clips and shoots great out of my beater 1917. Never have to worry are these the down loads for the 1917s or full strength for the 1911s.
