45 shot in Chigago over 4th weekend

The father of the seven year old kid is reported to be a "ranking" gang member having been arrested 45 times!!!

They can be arrested 99 times.........unless the laws change
and put more muscle in them and put them away.

In Nevada if a gun is used in ANY crime.........
your butt is grass.

I'm just afraid that Chicago is one of the cities where the gangs are too entrenched and the gang culture too pervasive for much success in trying to control them.
The gangs are deeply entrenched in city "government" AND the police.

Cops have been heavily involved in their drug trade. Google "Joseph Miedzianowski". The S.O.S. unit which was supposedly fighting drug and gun crime, switched to home invasions, burglaries and kidnappings for profit. Confidential police information has been found in the possession of gang members.

City council members have strong ties to gangs, and use them as political foot soldiers.

The media covers for all of this to curry favor with the power structure.

Chicago's murder rate is about as surprising as the collapse of Ramadi.

Just like how cocaine and heroin are illegal in all states, and now we can't get any and you never seen any on the streets? Oh, wait....

There are more guns in Wyoming than Chicago. Yet no slew of shootings here. Maybe it is something other than guns at work.

Populaton of Wyoming - 585,000
Population of Chicago - 2,720,000

Total people injured by gunshots on the July 4 weekend, as a percentage of the population = .00165 -

Additionally, not all of these were in the Chicago proper - many are in the surrounding cities.

Bad, yea - there are some bad areas of almost every town, and most certainly every town with millions of residents.

Just a point of perspective.

Add to that, many of the shootings are gang related, gang on gang crime, and not crimes against "civilians" if I can use that term.

I have never had trouble in Chicago - but I know where to stay away from and what time to stay away.

Other than perhaps Rahm Emmanuel's office, there's no longer any "safe" place in Chicago.

Robberies, rapes and murders are happening in the formerly "safe" tourist areas like the Loop and N. Michigan Ave.

The safest place to be is on the far side of the "Welcome to Indiana" sign and heading east.

Indiana is not without it's problems ...

"Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics from 2009 and 2011 show Indiana ranks second-worst in the nation when it comes to high school girls saying they'd been forced to have sex.

The statute of limitations for Class B felony rapes is five years in Indiana.

Although each state defines rape differently, roughly 20 states have no statute of limitations whatsoever, and all but a few states have limits longer than Indiana."

Sensationalism aside, preparedness is the answer, not running away, at least in my opinion.
