I prefer a 45 acp for a self defense round. If I have to use a handgun in a defense senario I would be less concerned of shooting a target and having the bullet pass through the bad guy and go into the neighbors house across the street. That said using modern self defense hollow points like the Hornady Critical defense or Federal hydro shock, bullet expansion should prevent over penetration. Hard to go wrong with either one. I carried a 45 in the service and just plain feel comfortable with one.
