While looking at a Glock 30s, I looked over and saw a 4553 DAO version...wow does it ever feel great in the hand...but I think he wants too much money for it.

I was wondering if anyone had one, what they thought about it, how well they liked it, etc.

Are all the 45-- mags in that series compatible?

What holsters can you find for it now-a-days...or maybe which pistols are compatible with which holsters?

Any feedback would be welcome...and thank you in advance!

All the 3rd Gen full size 45 series mags are compatible (8 rounds) with the exception of the CCW 4513tsw or other CCW variants. If it is full size they should work.

Edit; My mistake for presuming it was the full size .45. I guess once in a while I need to look at the SCSW instead of making assumptions. So IT is like the 4513TSW pre rail. I have one with the 6 round mags. It is my favorite semi auto CCW.

I'm not a .45 guy for the most part, so what I know comes from the SCSW. The book lists two 4553, both TSW variants. The early version, which is presumably non rail, uses a six shot magazine. The later version, with a rail, uses a seven round magazine. The older version has "TACTICAL" on the slide. The newer version has "45 Tactical" on the slide.

The seven round magazines shouldn't be too hard to come by, but the six round ones might be.

Either version seems to be pretty rare.

The TDA versions are the 4513TSW and 4513 "45 Tactical".

There is one one a gun auction sight right now. At $550. Might want to check out if you are interested. I have no motive in passing along other than helping another 3rd gen smith guy with his addiction. Especially when comparing to a glock lol

I've done some research on it and, while it comes with three (3) factory 6-round mags...the 7-rounder's will work and are still availble from S&W! I've seen a couple of 4513TSW's for sale online...but never a 4553!

Just for comparison purposes from the same site, a 4553 TSW with one 6-round mag, no box or papers, was offered for $550 back in June but did not sell and has not been re-listed. It appeared to be in good condition. (I think that site's "completed auctions" data goes back three months only.)

The one being offered on that site now has two mags, box and papers, night sights, and is a no reserve auction. If you are interested in 4553TSW, I would certainly look hard at that one.

The last one sold on the S&W Forum "For Sale" area was a year ago, when a beautiful example with box, papers, 2 mags, in practically NIB condition sold for $475. That was an outstanding value!

I recently bought a 4513TSW. I love the single stack. This one just might become my new CC pistol.

I've had a chance to examine the Glock 30S. Interesting pistol. The first Glock I've contemplated purchasing.

I'm told by those who know that the LAPD SIS studied all of their shootings and determined that they usually were up against an average of three felons.

They then studied how many rounds were fired in an "average" shooting and determined that they needed a relatively small, concealeable, light weight 45 with an 11 round capacity. I'm told that they believe this will enable them to probably avoid having to reload during a shooting.

I've not yet shot a Glock 30S, but I'm hoping to remedy that in the near future.

That said, I picked the 4513TSW as a duty pistol. It is the TDA variant similar to the 4553TSW. I did own a 4553TSW for a short time. Nice gun, but I prefer TDA over DAO guns. You don't see either model for sale very often. Those who have them keep them.

The 45XXTSW guns are slimmer than the Glock 30S and conceal just as easy, for me. The reduced capacity of the 45XXTSW guns doesn't concern me. 7 rounds of 45 in the 4513TSW, with a 7-round magazine on the belt for a fast reload........on the slim chance it will be needed, is plenty, for me.

I love my 4513TSW. Accurate, bet your life reliable and looks good doing all that. My most carried handgun. I use Glock 23 holsters for it. They fit well. Sig 245 holsters work too. Ive also found that some XD holsters also work. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

Your endorsement of the 4513TSW was the biggest reason I decided to get one, 18DAI. I also decided it was the next best thing to the Shorty 45 I hope to acquire someday, and that in the meantime, I probably will carry the 4513TSW and a spare mag, as my CC rig. Thanks for all the great info on this terrific pistol!

I got my hands on a 4553TSW (7 rounder) a few months back thru Armslist from a guy in AR - for only $300. He didn't like it. It is in great shape and I just changed the springs and bought some new mags.

I have not shot it much (ammo availability) - but I did put new night sights on it. I have not decided it I will keep it. Right now it is at the LGS b/c I broke the nylon disconnector somehow. . . .

Thanks for the offer Amishman44. I don't think it'll be anytime soon though. This is replacing the CS45 I recently traded and soon regretted. I'm thinking the 4553 will get along well w/ it's cousins, a CS9D and a 5943.
