Back in the day for light recoiling plate loads, where power factor was not a factor but speed was king, 185 grs was as heavy as it got. My preferred load used a cast 155 gr semi wad cutter with a long nose, fed from a parallel lipped wadcutter magazine.
Its one of the few areas where I recommend using a reduced weight recoil bring.
if you're developing a light load get a selection of reduced power recoil springs. start with the standard spring and a minimum weight published powder charge and reduce the recoil spring weight in steps until you get reliable feeding. Don't reduce recoil spring weight any further as you'll just be battering the slide and frame and complicating the feeding issues due to reduced slide over run time and eventually slide bounce.
