Anyone have one of these? Seems like a great idea/cartridge. Potentially could fire 45schofield to 460sw (4 cartridges). tell me your experiences.

Had one with the 5"bbl and only fired the 45lc 454 and 460 thru it. The 45lc and 454 were like shooting a 22 but the 460 was more of what I expected. Recoil wasn't any worse than my 29-2 but boy was the report sharp and the concussion was impressive.

I've owned the 5" 460 for 4 years. I only shoot the Hornady 200 SST cartridge...love the accuracy. Concussion blast is second only to my 4" 500 using the Hornady 300 grain SST's...ouch!

I've had my PC .460 for 5 years and it's accuracy still amazes me. If you don't reload, I suggest you stick to .44 magnum unless you have really deep pockets. When one reloads you can have custom ammo for not much more than .44mag. If you must buy factory ammo, hunting type ammo is pretty pricey....somewhere between $2-$3 a round. It's hard to enjoy the gun when it's breaks the bank everytime you go to the range. The 200gr Hornady ammo is accurate and is only about $1.50 a round, but my experience is it's too fragile for deer sized and larger game. You also MUST wear ear protection EVERY time you shoot it. EVERY time.

As far as shooting other calibers outta it. If you reload, you don't need to shoot other calibers, you just load down your .460 brass. Other calibers will print quite differently than .460 loads and you will continuously be adjusting your sights. Shorter cartridges tend to leave a crud ring which raises pressure quickly and makes for hard extraction if you don't get it all out when going back to .460 loads.

The 460 is a great gun. +1 on what buck460XVR said. But when he says wear hearing protection what he really means is wear DOUBLE hearing protection - an ear plug plus the ear muffs. NEVER shoot it without proper hearing protection or you will permanantly damage your ears. The concussion is awesome. Last time I shot, a guy said I was shaking the leaves from the tree above. Unless you have money to burn I highly recommend reloading. As was said, if you do that, you dont need other calibers, just load down for what you want. You will gain friends at the range because everyone will want to know what you are shooting.

I would love to have a 5" version but having a terrible time finding one.

I have the XVR model and love it. I either shoot my reloads or the Hornady 200 gr ammo. Both are very accurate and a lot of fun.

As mentioned, reloading is the way to go with this caliber. Ammo is quite expensive.

I have a Lew Horton 6.5 " bbl since 05. Great gun with 200 gr hornady. Very accurate. One shot kills on 11 deer. Not one ran more than 50 yards. I would highly recommend this gun for any handgunner. Always wear ear protection. My muffs were not on properly once and I thought I blew out my ear drum
