Hey guys, I was wondering your opinions on a new to me gun. I can either buy the new Smith 438 blue Bodyguard for $480 or a pretty much new with box 49 blue Bodyguard for $495. The 438 weighs 15oz and the 49 is 22oz. I like the finish and the lack of lock on the 49 but I dont know about the extra 7oz for a pocket gun. What do you all think? Would I even notice the 7oz and are there any main differences between the two model? Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Tough choice. All steel J's are not too terribly heavy for pocket carry but it is noticeable compared to an Airweight.

For the two choices you have, I would tend toward the Model 49. You can always pick up an Airweight later on.

I agree; pick the 49. I carry an all steel nickel Model 40-1 fairly regularly, and I never notice the weight in a pocket with a good pocket holster. To me, the butt sticking out of the pocket is more of a problem. Combining a good holster and a pair of pants with deep pockets is a must for a revolver of any weight. Go for it, get the 49, I'd love to have one personally.

You are all right, Im jumping on the 49, I can always buy the other one later. 7oz is only 7oz. That was easier than I thought.
