Back home, for now
Like a lot of S&W lovers here, I have a soft spot for M&Ps and later M10s. And while I like (and covet) all the barrel lengths, I'm particularly drawn to the 5". It balances superbly and shoots, handles and looks better than the 4", without the almost excessive length of the 6". Here's some from my meager collection.
Bob

Some of my post-war guns. From the top: my 10-5 "shooter" with Tyler T, an almost perfect post-war one-line transition and a pair of NIB 10-7s, with all paperwork and sealed tool kits.

1936 M&P. This one is a superb POA shooter with factory w/c:

This was bought as a "fixer upper" that's turned into a nice old shooter for me. It is a pre-10 made just before or during the change to model numbers.

Nice collection. I've long wanted a 5" M-10. I just got this 10-7 a few weeks ago.

I also have a 4 and 2" 10-5, a pre-victory and this M&P snubbie is my favorite of the lot.

I'll contribute two here, the first a commercial Victory ("SV" prefix) from 1946, and the other a Model 10-5 from 1967. I have two prewar 5-inchers also, but no pictures of either, which I will have to remedy.

OIF2, I'm presuming your transitional is an "S" prefix gun?

What beautiful guns! I, too, favor the five inch, but we'll see what happens after my six inch Model 10 arrives this weekend.

Nice,

Heres my only two five inchers,
A Mid 1930's high polish with the Left side small logo and,
A 1941 pre Victory with satin finish and lanyard ring.

Great collection of 5's, Bob. I only have one but am quite fond of it.
I'd love to find a transition model like yours, .. just beautiful.

Yes, it is. I have a 6" just like it, but without the large-head ejector knob.

A little thread drift, but this one is nice. 27-2 5" with Herrett's Ropers

I like Colts, too...Official Police and a Police Positive Special .38, 5"
The Colt OP was rebarreled, rebuilt and refinished at the factory several years back.

Thats a great looking collection. I think the 5 inch bbl's are the best balanced and best looking on a revolver.

My M&P '49-'50 vintage. Great shooter

Lots of handsome items here. OIF2 - I admire that nickel 10-7 in your first group shot; besides which, the photo nicely captures color nuances in the grips of the guns.

And thanks to all for the show and tell.

Regards,

Dyson

Nice one, Mike. I like the holster, too. What's your serial number on the transitional? Mine's #S 860602...I suspect yours is a little later due to the later-style ejector rod head.
