My LGS has a Model 60-?? with a 5" barrel. Never heard of this before; anyone know manufacturing history, or is this a private barrel change?

It was only produced for a few years and didn't sell well, so of course more people want them and prices have risen :). I've seen them sell recently in the $700 range.

I'm sure in my neighborhood you would not find the collector demand Murphy Dog wrote about. None the less they still have the nitch they were designed to fill: a centerfire target or hunting revolver for those with small hands. For those people it came with small wood stocks that resemble larger frame 1980s combats. Firing .38 special cartridges it would be a good trainer for youngsters. They aren't the most common S&W. That is good for collectability but they all have two piece barrels which a lot of collectors turn their nose up over.

After S&W abandoned their nitch Ruger stepped in with 4" adjustable sighted SP 101s.

One of the great thing about grips is they're removable. No matter the gun, you can always find one that fits your hand. I've never thought of J-frames being exclusively for people with "small hands" or children, though they are certainly lighter and handier than some other frame sizes.

A pawn shop here has had one all year. . .probably still has it. It was in the $600 range. I couldn't figure out what it was when I first saw it. Looked at it again a few months later. It looks un-natural. I still don't want it.

Stocks that add material over the back strap adapt Js to larger hands but no stock can reduce an N frame's trigger reach enough for small hands.

I don't have it - the LGS price was $770 (consignment).

I thought it was interesting - but not that much interesting. Just never saw or heard of one before, but I'm only @15% a revolver type, so I miss a lot. Didn't know S&W ever made such a thing.

For a couple hundred less, it would meet my interest:cost ratio, but I doubt it will get there.

I have one made in 2008. I think they started in 2005. It has a 3 # SA trigger, is very accurate, and I like it a lot. Great hiking and fishing carry revolver. I put a Hogue Monogrip on it so I'd have something to hang on to. S&W now catalogues a DeSantis holster for it. I realize the purists don't care for the two piece barrel, but having a barrel in tension has it's advantages. That's why the Dan Wesson's or yore were so accurate.

Unfortunately, I guess, this one got traded on a .38 combat masterpiece. Yes, two piece barrel and accurate as all get out. I only shot a full .357 in it once ;) It was my only IL SW at the time and I wanted to stay old school. In the meantime I acquired a beautiful 21-4 in nickle that's a keeper.

Did a quick search - one recent online sale at $760, one sitting at $875, and one that didn't meet reserve price at $1000 (?!). Don't have one and wouldn't pay even the lowest price, but there you have it.
